Hypnosis: What it is and What it isn't?
We've all seen the movies. Guy swings a pocket watch in front of someone and Abracadabra, he now controls them.
Hollywood ha$ made hundred$ of million$ if not Billion$ of dollar$ of that premi$e.
Makes for a great, creepy scene/plot/movie.
Remember "Get Out"?
Great, creepy flick.
One problem …
It's the Hollywood version of hypnosis, not the real version.
In hypnosis you go into a "trance-like state".
What does that mean?
You know that playlist you listen too while working out? You know how sometimes you can drive from point A to point B and have no recollection of it? Or how you get lost in a movie or television show? That is a "trance-like state".
You are fully aware of everything around you, but you are hyper focused. You can hear and understand what the hypnotist is saying. With hypnosis you are in full control. It is not the hypnotist controlling you, it is yourself. The hypnotist helps you past the blocks in your mind from achieving what you want to achieve. Be it weight loss, to stop smoking, pain management, fears, phobias, self improvement, etc..
Everyone can be hypnotized. (Uhhh … yes, you CAN!)
Hypnosis is a perfectly natural state. And no, despite someone's uncle's, cousin's, brother's wife's, grandpa's, aunt saying so, you cannot get "stuck in hypnosis". You go in and out of trance all day long. It's a natural state.
That daydream of some white sand beach in a tropical location? Yep, that's a "trance-like state". Affirmations? Yep, self-hypnosis.
In numerous third world countries hypnosis is used where anesthesia medicines are not available.
And we use the word "sleep" a lot. But you are not going to fall asleep. Unless you are really tired. I have ways of checking to make sure, but If I need to catch up on paperwork, I might let you doze for a bit. (Ok, I'm kidding with that last line.) Again you are aware of everything i'm saying. You are in a very relaxed state, but not asleep.
If you're up for the fancy language "Hypnosis activates your subconscious mind to reprogram thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that are unwanted."
You are not surrendering your will, you will not divulge any secrets to me. I'm not going to make you do anything you don't want to do, if I try, you will come out of trance quickly.
Some people remember the whole session. others don't remember anything. The fun part is when they say hypnosis doesn't work, but that problem they saw me for is longer in existence. It just magically "disappeared".
Again, it is a perfectly natural state. You go into a deep relaxation and accept positive suggestions to change what you want to change.
The key is that you want to change.
A few questions to think over, and yes, I'd ask these in the first session:
What do you want?
What is the positive outcome?
What does that look like?
How would you feel when you have achieved this positive outcome?
Why hasn't it worked for you before?
How do you NOT do the thing you want to do?
What does that look like?
What stops/derails/sabotages you or gets in the way?
How does it feel when you are "blocked"?
These are just a few of the questions to focus in on what you really want. There are more. Give it some thought and when you are ready to change your life, contact me and we will get you onto the path of a new life … a Future You.
