A farmer never knows the exact day autumn will arrive. But he's never surprised when it does.
That was the heart of Sabbath's message at Capital Chinese SDA Church from Matthew 24:32-33. Jesus pointed to the fig tree: "As soon as its branch becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near" (ESV). Nobody can predict the day or hour of His return. Jesus said so plainly. But He never told us to stop watching. He told us to know the season.
Here's the uncomfortable part. In Matthew 16, Jesus rebuked people who could read the weather perfectly but couldn't read the signs of the times. They had the skill. They just never pointed it at what mattered.
And knowing the season is not about anxiety or date-setting. The ship captain who sees a storm coming doesn't panic. He secures the rigging and gets to work. Watching and working belong together.
