Har Tzeon Agudath Achim, a warm and friendly traditional Jewish synagogue in Silver Spring, Maryland is looking for a Shabbat School Teacher. A small class of elementary school children will meet during Shabbat Services for two hours a week. This position has a potential to grow dependent on student participation and progress.
Salary is $40-$55/hour depending on qualifications and experience.
Qualifications include:
Ability to manage an elementary school classroom grades K-5. Skills to accommodate diverse educational abilities, and challenges are essential.
Ability to design and implement a Shabbat school curriculum, including prayer, torah (parsha and mitzvot), and holidays, for children not enrolled in Jewish Day school.
Proficiency and Ability to teach the beginner Hebrew, Jewish practices, beliefs, holidays, symbols, and rituals.
Ability to incorporate stories from the Torah, the weekly parsha, and the practice of key mitzvot into weekly Shabbat lessons.
Ability to develop children’s proficiency in reading, singing, and memorization and basic understanding of key prayers, e.g. Barchu, Sh’ma, Amida, Mi Chamocha, The Torah Service, Adon Olam, 4 Questions, etc.
