What do hippos have that nothing else has? Biological hippo parents.

Apply this same biological framework (like begets like) to the LORD'S church. If the church you attend doesn't have biological/ organic parenthood back to The LORD'S church in Luke 6/ Matthew 16 (pre-pentecost), but goes back to Rome, Reformation, or Rogue, then you are not in "The LORD'S church," but literally in some other creature.

Many folks quote this passage recalling that Jeremiah could not REMAIN silent in the word of God. Don't forget that he was silent and the reason why. He was silent because folks were mocking him and made him a laughingstock because of his preaching of the word of the LORD. Whether folks believed or not, Jeremiah was responsible for preaching God's word. If it was his message, Jeremiah may have had a right to be ashamed. But Jeremiah preached God's message and could not contain himself. Preacher of the word of God, preach God's word and His message. Not your "word" and your "message." Be encouraged.

Jeremiah 20:7-9 O LORD, thou hast deceived (persuaded) me, and I was deceived (persuaded): thou art stronger than I, and hast prevailed: I am in derision daily, every one mocketh me. For since I spake, I cried out, I cried violence and spoil; because the word of the LORD was made a reproach unto me, and a derision, daily. Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.

A difficult reality is that we're all going to leave this world in death (or resurrection). Where is your hope? Is it in your works? Behavior? Friendships? Wealth? A believer in Jesus Christ has hope/expectation in their death, and that hope is Christ Himself. Those who cling to anything and everything other than the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ will be driven away in their reward of torments. Sinner, repent, and believe the gospel.

Proverbs 14:32 The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death.

When you sharpen something, it's usually done to make that thing increasingly fit for use. Consider, then, your friends and influencers. Are they "sharpening" you as a servant to God, or making you dull? Also, consider what role you are playing toward others. Again, do you sharpen or dull others in their duty of service toward God?

Proverbs 27: 17 Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

"No sinner was ever saved by giving his heart to God. We are not saved by our giving, we are saved by God’s giving." - A. W. Pink

Compare the young rich man (Mark 10:17-22) and the widow (Mark 12:41-44).

1. Which of these would characterize a disciple of Christ? Why?
2. What is the distinctive difference in the two?
3. What "thing" is holding us back from "selling out" and serving God with all?
