Sunday, August 23rd, marked one year that Luke and Lauren Shelton have led the music program at First Baptist. We are so blessed that the Lord led them to our church! On Sunday, the two of them were able to pull a complete surprise on the whole church - Luke and Lauren came to us with music degrees, but Lauren had never played the organ. Our organ has been silent, but no more! No one knew that Lauren had been building her skills at playing the organ. When she got up from the piano and proceeded to the choir loft and unlocked the organ and sat down, we knew something was up! She treated us to a beautiful rendition of Majesty. The applause was long and loud at the end of the song….and all were blessed!

On Sunday, August 9th, First Baptist Church was treated to a joint celebration sponsored by the Chatham County Aging Services and the Siler City Center for Active Living. The program was a thank you to the church for hosting the Siler City Center activities during the Center renovation from January through June 2026. Deputy Director of Aging Services and First Baptist Deacon, Zach Deaton, welcomed those present who represented both organizations and shared his thoughts on how both groups were beneficiaries of the activities held at the church. Siler City Center Manager, Kathryn Walters, shared her memories of growing up in First Baptist and how much she appreciated that the church opened its door for the participants and staff when there was a need.

These remarks were followed by a musical program with performances by Angelynn McClary, Luke and Lauren Shelton (Musical Directors of First Baptist), the D.J. Music Jam group of the Siler City Center for Active Living.

Following the music, Zach, Kathryn and Ashlyn Martin (Director of Aging Services) presented the church with a permanent plaque to commemorate the relationship between the two. Afterwards the group was invited to the Fellowship Hall where a delicious dinner of Bar-B-Que with all the trimmings and desserts of every kind were enjoyed by all.

Join us on August 9th at 4:30 PM for a joint First Baptist/Chatham County Aging Services Picnic. We will begin in the sanctuary with live music followed by dinner in the Fellowship Hall. We will be celebrating the cooperation of Aging Services and our church during the Center for Active Living recent renovations. We were blessed to be able to provide space for their activities during this time.
