Mt Vernon's monthly family night was a festive night. We were blessed that Jadon Olsen and Kelsi Olsen were able to attend after they returned from their honeymoon. We enjoyed a yummy hot dog meal with all the condiments, sides and desserts. We played Bingo and fellowshiped together. Some were more lucky at Bingo than others, but we all are winners when we fellowship together in His name.
Thank you to the Outreach and Mission Team for coordinating and cooking. Thank you to all that contributed to making tonight a success.

Dale Oldham was our guest speaker today and our last one before our new pastor starts. Rev Jadon Olsen will be in the puplit full time next Sunday. Dale thanked Mt. Vernon and Sapling Ridge for welcoming him and all the kindness we showed him this past year. Dale had a powerful sermon "What can I do?" from Hebrews 13:17, I Thessalonians 5:12-13 & Psalm 133:1. Dale gave us guidance as we welcome Pastor Jadon and Kelsi Olsen . We should work together and be willing to serve rather just observe. Dale reminded us to commit faithfully, encourage extravagantly, serve joyfully & work together in Christian love with our new pastor. Amen!

Thank you Dale for your encouraging words and all your support and sermons. We know we will see you again at Mt. Vernon.

Pslam 133:17 "Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!"

We were privileged to have Pastor Tim Strider bring our mesage today from II Kings 6:1-7, "The Lost Axe Head". Pastor Strider elaborated on the meaning of the scripture and reminded us nothing is too hard for our God. Elisha is a figure of God's son, Jesus, and the twig is a figure of the Cross. We can lose our cutting edge like the lost axe head when we fail in praying, reading the bible, coming to church, sharing our talents, and spreading God's word.

We are thankful to Pastor Tim Strider for his sermon today and for his other sermons during the past year.

“No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” (John 15:13, NRSV)

In the U.S., we observe Memorial Day, which is a day of solemn remembrance of those who laid down their lives in service to this nation. As followers of Jesus, we honor their sacrifice, acknowledging the deep grief that endures in the hearts of families and friends, and give thanks for the costly gift of their service.

Today we invite you to pause in prayer: for comfort and hope for the bereaved, for healing for those still bearing wounds of war, and for God’s justice and peace to prevail throughout the world. 🙏

Today was a holy day at Mt. Vernon; it was Pentecost Sunday and our 74th annual Memorial Service. Jerry Hudson Jr. opened our service with our Memorial Association Meeting. Our ushers Jackie Perry and Mike Lemons lit the candles given in memory of our loved ones. Delaney Fuquay sang "Blessed Assurance" & "How Great Thou Art" while her mother, Kim accompanied her on the piano. Buddy Lemons, our lay leader, opened our worship service and Niyah Lemons lit the altar candles and Christ candle. Our esteemed guest speaker, Rev. Linda Yow, preached from Acts 11:19-30. Her sermon "When God Breaks In" challenged us to move away from the recognizable and seek out unknown places and people. We must reach across the divide and love like Jesus - agape love. When God breaks in, the Holy Spirit comes in, and we create a community of love built on the passion of Christ. Amen! We concluded our memorial tribute by lighting a candle for our saint, Carolyn Faye Fox White, that passed away July 6, 2025. Everyone was invited to join us for a covered dish lunch afterwards.

Thank you to all that contributed to making today a blessed day. A special thank you to Linda Yow for her poignant sermon for our church as we begin a new chapter in June when our pastor Rev. Jadon Olsen joins us. We are so grateful that Delaney Fuquay shared her beautiful voice with us and Kim Fuquay accompanied her on the piano.

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”
