SPEAK
The word “speak” reminds me of the story of Moses when God asked him to speak to Pharaoh. Moses begins to make up excuses not to do what God has asked him. Immediately, he says, “Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.” (Exodus 4:10 (NIV))
It strikes me as rather odd that the Bible doesn’t mention Moses’ handicap before this incident. And that Moses would not have known that God took his speech impediment into account when He gave him instructions and made provision for any shortcomings. It’s no wonder that the Bible says, “Then the LORD’s anger burned against Moses . . .” God had already prepared Aaron to help Moses with the speaking.
Too often, we marginalize God’s ability and His omniscience when it comes to doing what He asks us. We, too, begin to list out reasons why we can’t take on the task. We don’t have time, we’re not called to do that, we don’t have the ”know-how,” and so on. It’s as if we don’t realize that God knows everything about us and has taken into consideration those things we are not adept at doing, and has others to help us
Look at the disciples—few were skilled orators or educated. Yet, God entrusted to them one of His most valuable possessions—the Gospel. They spoke truth and repentance to lost souls in their sphere of influence. The Holy Spirit gave them the words to say and helped them along the way. They willingly took on the task and did the best they could with what God gave them.
A lesson for us is that there is no task too big or difficult if God is in it!
