201 years ago today, First Presbyterian Church of Sidney was founded! ⛪️

Since September 4, 1825, generations have gathered here to worship God, proclaim the Gospel, and serve our community.

Today, we give thanks for those who came before us and for God’s faithfulness through 201 years of ministry in Sidney.

By God’s grace, our story continues! ❤️

What a wonderful Sunday at First Presbyterian Church!

Today we were blessed to welcome Becky Cerling Powers, who shared with us the remarkable life and Christian witness of Laura Richards. Becky brought Laura’s story to life, sharing not only about her years of faithful service, but also about the profound way Laura shaped Becky’s own Christian faith.

Laura truly embodied the heart of a servant—dedicating her life to Christ and allowing that faith to be expressed through a life of love, service, and care for others. Hearing her story reminded us that a life faithfully offered to God can continue bearing fruit long after we are gone.

Following worship, Becky spent time visiting with members of the congregation, sharing about her published works, and talking about her life as an author. One particularly special moment came when she gathered with some of our church youth and read her newest children’s book to them.

We are so grateful to Becky for spending this Sunday with us, for sharing Laura’s story, and for reminding us of the lasting impact of a life devoted to Christ.

Thanks be to God for the saints who have gone before us—and for the stories that keep their witness alive.

📚 Special Guest at Worship – Sunday, August 23!

We are pleased to welcome author Becky Cerling Powers, who will speak during our worship service about her books, Laura’s Children and The Forbidden Orphanage Outside the Forbidden City.

The books tell the remarkable story of Laura Richards, who grew up near Sidney, attended First Presbyterian Church, and later served as a Presbyterian missionary in China.

A small reception with refreshments will follow worship, offering everyone an opportunity to meet Becky and learn more about Laura’s inspiring life and ministry.

Please join us at 10:30 a.m. for this special Sunday. Everyone is welcome!
