The award-winning film Cabrini is streaming on Formed!

She landed in New York in 1889 with six sisters and no welcome. The archbishop told her to go back to Italy. She stayed and built sixty-seven hospitals, schools, and orphanages instead. Rome made her the first American citizen ever canonized.

Our parish offers Formed to all parishioners. Formed is a media streaming platform that is directly geared towards helping Catholics grow in our faith. These include videos, movies, books, and audio offerings. There are lots of resources - find which one is right for you! To get started, go to https://www.formed.org and at the top of the website, click “Find Your Parish Subscription.” Click on the link and it will guide you from there!

“Dedicate New Shumway Church Sunday”

“Most Reverend William A. O’Connor, D.D., Bishop of Springfield will officiate at the solemn dedication of the new St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, Shumway next Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

Ceremonies include the blessing of the exterior and interior of the building, a pontifical low mass to be read by Bishop O’Connor, conferral of the Sacrament of Confirmation on eighteen children and four adults, and Benediction. Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus will form a guard of honor.

The Anthonian Choraliers of St. Anthony high school, directed by John Rayburn, will furnish the music for the occasion. The dedication ceremonies require Anthonians and the Litany of the Saints rendered according to ancient Gregorian chant. The usual processional hymn for a bishop, “Ecce Sacerdos Magnus” (Behold the High Priest) will be sung while Bishop O’Connor prepares for Mass. English hymns will be sung during the Pontifical Mass.

A souvenir booklet, including a history of the parish will commemorate the occasion. The Altar Sodality of St. Mary’s extend an invitation to an open house to be held from two to five in the afternoon for anyone wishing to view the new building. Refreshments will be served to guests.

The $60,000 structure, on Highway 33 between Effingham and Beecher City, was built under the direction of the pastor, Rev. John J. Goff. Rev. Charles P. Mulcrone is the assistant pastor.

Mark your calendars!!
📖Our fall study will begin on Wednesday, September 9th at 6:30pm in the lower level of the church. We will do a short study over the Constitutions of Vatican II.📖

"The opening of the Second Vatican Council took place on October 11, 1962, as bishops from around the world joined Pope St. John XXIII at St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. Pope Saint Paul VI solemnly concluded the Council December 8, 1965. Of the sixteen documents promulgated during four years of the Council, four Constitutions stand out as foundational for understanding and bringing about the spiritual and pastoral renewal foreseen by the bishops. These documents have guided the Church during the past sixty years and will continue to shape the life of the Church in the future."

This five-part study of the Constitutions is offered in response to Our Holy Father’s invitation to become a synodal Church, a church of communion, participation, and mission. All are welcome, please join us!
