St Mary's Syriac Orthodox Church - Shrewsbury Ma.

St Mary's Syriac Orthodox Church - Shrewsbury Ma. With our faith in God, the help of parishioners, and the generosity of church friends, we are hoping to work together as a family in God's home.

Ninety years ago in Worcester, MA settlers laid a corner stone for our church on Hawley Street. Neighborhood conditions forced our families to relocate to our Shrewsbury, MA location – a warehouse converted into a prayer house for the parish. While we are humble in our needs, the swelling increase of our parishioners has made a remodel in our facilities an absolute necessity. We were in the planni

ng and approval process to build a new church in our current location for a few years, and we have finally begun the project with our faith in God, the help of parishioners, and the generosity of church friends. We broke ground on May 19, 2013, the foundation is in, and construction is ongoing. Our hope is to be ready for occupancy Easter Sunday, 2014. Despite our limited resources we went ahead with the construction of our new church knowing that in these times of hardship, our people need a spiritual and social center to come together and nurture our Syriac Christian faith and culture.

We are excited to announce that our sister church, St. Ephraim’s Syriac Orthodox Church, will be joining us for our Outdoor Mass & Parish Outing at the beautiful Cathedral of the Pines on Sunday, July 12, 2026.

The Holy Divine Liturgy will be celebrated by Abouna Tony and Abouna Maroutha, as our communities come together in prayer, fellowship, and unity.

Please note that there will be no Mass at St. Mary’s in Shrewsbury or at St. Ephraim’s Church on this day, as we will all gather together at the Cathedral of the Pines.

We encourage all families and parishioners to attend, bring lawn chairs, food, portable grills, and pop-up tents for shade/cover, and enjoy a blessed day together.

“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!” — Psalm 133:1

Join us for a special evening of fellowship, learning, and community at St. Mary’s Syriac Orthodox Church!
We are excited to welcome Attorney Jack Mourad for an informative presentation on important topics that impact many families, including wills & trusts, power of attorney, and health proxy planning. This will be a valuable opportunity to gain practical knowledge, ask questions, and better prepare for the future.
Following evening prayer, all are invited to stay for the presentation and enjoy a community social together afterward.
We are also grateful for Attorney Mourad’s support of our community. As a courtesy to attendees and church families, he has kindly offered preferred pricing for those who may choose to use his services in the future.
We encourage everyone to attend and invite family and friends for this meaningful evening.

Dear Parishioners,
We are filled with joy to share the attached invitation for a very special event in the life of our church community.
By the Grace of God, Subdeacon Malek Askar will be ordained to the rank of Full Deacon by His Eminence Mor Dionusius John Kawak. This spiritual milestone will take place on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at St. Ephraim Syriac Orthodox Church in Central Falls, RI.
To allow our clergy and faithful the opportunity to travel and participate in this blessed occasion, please note the following change to our schedule for that day:
Schedule for Sunday, June 7, 2026
Our Parish Divine Liturgy: Starts early at 10:00 AM (instead of 11:00 AM).
Ordination Liturgy in RI: Starts at 12:00 PM.
We encourage everyone to join us for our morning service and, if possible, to journey to Rhode Island to support Subdeacon Malek as he takes this significant step in his service to the Lord.
Let us keep him in our prayers during this holy time
