Happy September, First Fam! Hope you have something fun (that doesn’t involve labor) planned for this Labor Day weekend!
GOODWILL – Sunday, September 6, is Goodwill Dropoff, where our precious Step-up pr***en students will gather your clothing donations at the Motor Lobby door of the E&A Building, 9:30-10AM. If you miss this time slot, leave your donations by the E&A stairwell. We exchange your donations for Goodwill vouchers, which are then shared with people searching for household goods or clothing. We can only accept clothing and accessories.
HUNGER ACTION MONTH – September is Hunger Action Month, and we are collecting food. You might also consider a donation to Food Bank North Louisiana, where they can turn your $1 into $10 worth of food! https://www.foodbanknla.org/ A food collection box is in the E&A lobby by the elevators.
RONALD McDONALD HOUSE – Their Meals from the Heart program has a lot of open nights this fall. The team is looking for classes/clubs/individuals/families that want to help fill a night every month or at least every other month. Meals in Shreveport are for 30-40 people. It is always a good idea to check with the House a day or so before to confirm the number. Dinners include a main, a side, a bread, and dessert. When returning from a long day at the hospital, a thoughtful meal means so much to these families. If you have any questions, please contact Ellen LeClair, the Strategic Partnerships & Events lead – 318.383.6949 or [email protected]
COMMUNITY RENEWAL ALLENDALE – Our neighbors at the Allendale Friendship Houses are wanting to bring back report card parties for their children, something our church sponsored for many years. The first nine week report card party will be Thursday, October 15, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. This event will only be open to children who make good grades (2.5 GPA and above) and have good conduct. The menu for the first party will be pizza, cupcakes, and drinks. If you are willing to assist with this project, please let me know as soon as possible. They need volunteers and donations: Pizza, Cupcakes, Drinks, Bingo prizes, Academic medals. The party will be INSIDE. The address of Friendship House is 1515 Clay Street. This is a really fun way for a group to serve together!
BLOOD DRIVE - First Methodist Church and LifeShare will host a blood drive Sunday, September 13th from 9:15AM-12:15PM in Storer Activity Room. Please encourage friends and family to attend!
WACKY WEDNESDAYS - Staci has restarted Wacky Wednesdays for her Step-up and Lighthouse students! They meet 3:30-5:00 each Wednesday, and she would love to have some fresh hands if you’re interested in participating. It’s a fun and meaningful event each week, and really, Staci does the heavy lifting! Just show up with a great attitude and a willingness to love on her amazing kiddos!
