Kings Highway Chri

stian Church (Disciples of Christ) was founded May 20, 1923. Kings Highway’s start was made possible through the work and commitment of the members of its “parent” church, Central Christian in Shreveport. Since its earliest days Kings Highway Christian Church has been located at the corner of Kings Highway and Line Avenue, catty-corner from C.E. Byrd High School. In 1925, only two years after the church was founded, the magnificent sanctuary was completed. Since that time this sanctuary has been the sight of hundreds of Weddings and funerals, and thousands of worship services. It is one of only two protestant churches in Shreveport listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Over the years the church’s facilities have grown as a result of four ambitious building campaigns, but the buildings are only the shell of the church and while the history of our facilities are simple to report, there is no way to quickly sum up the history of the church as a community. Suffice it to say that as with any other congregation we have nurtured children and seen them grow into adulthood. We have helped many young people through their exciting and difficult teenage years. On countless occasions we have cared for families during some of the best and worst moments of their lives. We have sought to inspire all who enter to recognize the love that God is offering us, and to grow in relationship with God by listening for and responding to God's call for our lives. And together we have tried to make our neighborhood and city the best that they can be by spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ through word and deed.

If you’ve ever wondered what Sunday mornings look like inside Kings Highway Christian Church, here’s a little peek.

We start the day with Prayer Service at 8:50 AM in the sanctuary. It's a quiet time to settle our hearts, lift up needs, and begin the morning in God’s presence.

At 9:30 AM, Sunday School is happening all over the building.
Our nursery cares for the littlest ones, children and youth head to their grade‑level classes, and adults choose from several groups depending on what they enjoy. It’s a warm, learning‑filled hour for every age.

Then at 10:30 AM, we gather in the Family Life Center for Praise and Worship.
Some sit with family, some with friends, some on their own. Some stand with hands lifted, some stay seated and soak in the music. Some are new to faith, some have been here for decades.
We notice when someone’s missing, and we welcome every new face.

The beauty of KHCC is that we come as individuals, but we worship as a family.
Different backgrounds, different stories, different ways of praising… and yet one shared love for Jesus and for each other.

Now you know what goes on inside the building at KHCC.
How about plan your time to be with us next Sunday!

So thankful for Rev. Jyn Lesher’s message last Sunday!

She reminded us that the Holy Spirit helps us grow a fruit‑filled attitude, and from that, good works flow out to others.

Her message from Galatians 5:22‑23 was a sweet reminder that love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self‑control are the fruits that show God’s Spirit at work in us.

Thank you, Jyn, for bringing such a thoughtful message and keeping our hearts centered while Rev. Steve and the youth serve in Ecuador.

Jyn will bring us another sermon this Sunday at 10:30 a.m. Please join us!

June gives us a chance to reflect on the things that hold our lives and communities together.

Many faith communities observe this month as Fidelity Month, focusing on faithfulness to God, family, community, and country.

At KHCC, we invite everyone to live these values in simple ways:
*Faithfulness to God through prayer or quiet reflection.
*Faithfulness to family through encouragement and patience.
*Faithfulness to community through kindness and service.
*Faithfulness to country through gratitude and responsibility.

May this month inspire us to walk faithfully and love generously.

We welcome you to worship with us this Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

Our mission team hasn’t just been spending time with the kids. We’ve been working as well. We have been moving rocks and gravel to help with water drainage. Project one was digging the mud out behind a building and putting rock and gravel down before cement. Second project was digging the mud out of the drainage ditches. Lots of muddy fun. Not a lot of pictures. I was covered in mud.

"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."
Day Two in Shell, Ecuador at Casa de Fe on our your youth mission trip. Took the kids to the pool including the special need kids. If you could only see the smiles on the faces of those kids who are confined to a chair for life. God bless abundantly those willing to sacrifice their time and resources to care for Orphans. I Thank God for our team. Jesus commanded us to go to the ends of the earth as a witness. Thank you to those supporting the pool day.
