His kingdom.” Our desire is to see each Christian grow as disciples of Jesus Christ. We enjoy a family-like atmosphere and place a high value on studying the Bible, worshiping God, depending upon God through prayer, and fellowshipping with one another. We love to serve others through various means in our city, our state, our nation, and the world. Woodridge has a rich tradition of Christians who “have a desire to be a people who are sincere in our faith and genuine in the way we live out our faith in the daily, normal activities of life.”

God has blessed us in so many ways, but especially with a loving church family. We have a reputation of accepting visitors and new members with open arms. I pray that you will desire to follow God’s will in leading you to serve His church and I will be praying with you as God leads you to the church where He wants you to serve.

One of the most dangerous phrases in modern Christianity is, “This verse means to me…”

Scripture does not mean one thing to you and something different to someone else. A passage may have many applications, but it has one true meaning—the meaning God intended.

Often, when we call a passage “difficult,” what we really mean is that we do not like what it says. It confronts our lifestyle, challenges our assumptions, or contradicts our culture.

The Bible is not ours to redefine. It is God’s Word to believe and obey.

Stop asking how to get around the text. Submit to what God has said.

What a full and joyful Sunday at Woodridge!

We began the day worshiping the Lord together, and we ended it conducting the business of the church and enjoying our Deacons’ Watermelon Fellowship.

The church is more than a service we attend. We are a family that worships together, serves together, makes decisions together, and enjoys life together—and sometimes that includes plenty of watermelon! 🍉

No one is beyond the transforming power of God.

Chuck Colson went from the center of the Watergate scandal to prison. But in the middle of his downfall, God used His truth to change him. Colson emerged with a completely different purpose and spent the rest of his life ministering to prisoners.

That is what the Word of God can do.

We look at some people and think they are too hard, too corrupt, too far gone. But the gospel has never depended on how good someone already is.

No matter how ugly sin has made a life, Jesus Christ can save, and the Word of God can transform.

Don’t give up on what God can do in someone’s life.

When was the last time you said something you regretted? Where did those words come from?

Jesus said, “The mouth speaks from the overflow of the heart” (Matthew 12:34).

Our sinful words are not merely slips of the tongue. They reveal what is filling our hearts. Anger, bitterness, pride, jealousy, and selfishness eventually make their way out of our mouths.

We often try to fix our words without confronting our hearts. But a cleaner mouth cannot come from an unchanged heart.

We need Christ to transform us from the inside out. Spend time with God. Fill your heart with His Word. Confess the sin your words reveal, repent of it, and ask Christ to change you.

Your mouth is telling the truth about your heart. Are you willing to listen?

What is your faith actually built on?

A preacher can encourage you. Your parents can teach you. Good arguments can strengthen your confidence in Christianity. But none of those things can become the foundation of your faith.

Paul said our faith should rest “not on human wisdom, but on God’s power.” — 1 Corinthians 2:5

That is why we keep coming back to the Word of God.

Read it. Meditate on it. Obey it. Build your life on it.

And at the center of that Word is Jesus Christ—crucified for our sins, buried, and risen again.

God’s Word is true.
God’s Word is trustworthy.
God’s Word has the power to transform your life.

Worldly wisdom tells us that the gospel needs to be made more impressive, more acceptable, or more compatible with the thinking of the age.

Paul says the opposite.

The power of the gospel does not come from our cleverness. It does not come from impressive speakers or persuasive personalities. It comes from Jesus Christ and Him crucified.

When we begin trusting human wisdom more than God’s Word, we don’t strengthen the gospel—we undermine the very power we are trying to display.

“So that your faith might not be based on human wisdom but on God’s power.” — 1 Corinthians 2:5

We want Jesus to save us—but sometimes we still want the world to tell us how to live.

That’s the tension.

We trust Christ with eternity, then turn to culture for wisdom about our marriage, our children, our money, our identity, and our priorities.

But following Jesus means surrendering more than our eternity to Him. It means surrendering our entire lives to Him.

The cross reminds us that God’s wisdom often looks foolish to the world. Jesus didn’t come to affirm the world’s way of living. He came to call us out of it and into His kingdom.

We live in a world with no shortage of advice.

Advice about marriage. Parenting. Money. Identity. Anxiety. Morality. What matters. What will make us happy.

But why would Christians ask a world that has rejected God to teach us how to live the life God created?

Scripture tells us that even what the world considers “foolish” about God is wiser than human wisdom. And nowhere do we see that more clearly than at the cross.

The world says live for yourself.
Jesus gave Himself away.

The world says find yourself.
Jesus says follow Me.

The world says trust your own wisdom.
Jesus calls us to surrender to His Word.

So instead of asking, “What does culture say?” or even “What do I think?” ask a better question:

What has God revealed in His Word?

Where have you allowed the world to disciple you?

Should we excuse Lindsey Clancy?

Mental illness, trauma, hormones, medication, and other factors may help explain someone’s behavior.

But explanation is not the same as excuse.

We can have compassion for someone who is suffering while still holding them responsible for their actions.

Biblical compassion does not require us to deny moral responsibility. In fact, it does the opposite. True compassion and mercy mandates proper justice
