BCAT - Brookwood Child Advocacy Team

BCAT - Brookwood Child Advocacy Team We exist to support and serve the foster families within Brookwood as they minister to the community.

As disciples of Christ, we have been given a mandate to serve and support the most vulnerable in our community. When James stated that “true religion” is to care for widows and orphans, he wasn’t giving us an exhaustive list, but an indicative one. The people of God are to care for those who cannot care for themselves and be a voice for the one who has no voice. Here at Brookwood, we have several

families who have answered this call by serving as foster families for children displaced from their homes due to maltreatment. This work is very challenging and cannot be successfully sustained without consistent support from the church as a whole. The level of sacrifice and disruption experienced by these families goes largely unnoticed, but is essential to the safety and restoration of a wounded child. While not everyone is called to foster, everyone is called to help those who do. MISSION: To facilitate the protection, empowerment, and restoration of children and families through steadfast prayer and strategic activity. VISION: A thriving and well-supported foster care community in our church and the surrounding area.

BCAT (Brookwood Child Advocacy Team) is sponsoring a TBRI training for our volunteers who work with children or anyone who would like to join us on September 24 from 2-4pm in the Community Room. Those who complete this training will be able to serve our Brookwood foster families by offering occasional childcare or extended respite.

TBRI (Trust-Based Relational Intervention) is a proven support tool for caregivers of children, especially those who come from hard places. Please sign up for this event.

Hey friends. DCFS is in need of door prizes for their foster family appreciation banquet. See message below:

Door prizes are needed for the DCFS Foster Family Appreciation Event hosted by DCFS on May 13. The theme is de-stress / relaxation, and this will be a brunch event. They would love to create theme baskets such as: movie night, grilling, family game night, LSU, relaxation, but they will be happy to accept any donations. Gift cards and basket donations can be delivered to Courtney Sanders at DCFS. Courtney’s work cell is 318-658-2046 to arrange for pick-up / drop-off. They would also love donations for a grand prize: a night at a local hotel and gift card to dinner. (They have done this before, and the foster parents went crazy over it!)

URGENT NEED: If you know of a resource/place that could house a homeless mother and her 13 yo daughter, please respond. Or if you can contribute to a hotel room, respond to
[email protected]
This would help prevent the daughter from being taken and placed in foster care.

This is a difficult but helpful book that tells the story of so many in foster care. Beware: if you read it, you will likely want to be the change in someone’s story.

If you’re wondering if God can truly move in the life of someone with all the odds stacked against her, look no further than Tori Hope Petersen. Tori grew up in the foster care system, a bi-racial child in a confusing and volatile world. Growing up with a mentally ill mother and living in t...

Teens aging out of foster care (many of whom are not involved with any specific program) will likely receive very little if anything for Christmas this year. Connect1 (part of Louisiana Baptist Childrens Home) is collecting $25 Amazon gift cards to distribute among these young adults in conjunction with DCFS.

Card donations can be given to Grace Phillips or Melinda Wallace or brought to Brookwood this Sunday. We will be turning them in to Connect1 on Monday. THANK YOU for your faithful often sacrificial generosity.
