Middle School Ministry at Incarnation

Middle School Ministry at Incarnation Filled by God's Grace we feed the hungry in heart, body, mind, and spirit.

Children, Youth & Family Ministry at Incarnation is designed to provide ways for parents to partner with Incarnation as we work together to help our kids grow in faith. At every baptism we hear Jesus say, "Let your light shine before others that they see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven (Matthew 5:16)." Middle School Ministry is designed to help young people in 6th - 8th grades to grow their faith through fellowship, faith education and service.

Nearly 100 middle school youth and their adults stepped up to pack enough meals to feed over 100 kids for a year. The spirits and energy was high, the music was loud and moved us along, the attitudes were so positive and hopeful. This is part of what it means to learn to live and love like Jesus for a lifetime.

In Confirmation on Wednesday, 2/4, younger middle schoolers learned a valuable lesson about God’s radical love and inclusion from the difficult story of Judas Iscariot, one of the Twelve, who betrayed Jesus, contributing to his death at the hands of the Roman Empire. 8th graders began their 5th core course, Church Outside the Walls, as they explored our calling to co-create a better, more loving world with God.

Next week, 2/11, younger middle school will learn about the nature of God’s truth and power and how to make tough decisions with a clear conscience. 8th graders will continue with week 2 of Church Outside the Walls and learn from scripture how Jesus sends us out to connect with neighbors wherever we go.

Wednesday night and First Thursday. 12 hours apart.

On Wednesday, 1/7, we ate, played, sang, explored our gifts, and shared community.

Younger middle schoolers sang and played some more and practiced living into the “brand-new-thing” God is doing in us and the world (2 Corinthians 5:17). In true Epiphany fashion, we gathered around an old liturgical lighthouse banner, on which we placed lit candles along with our written hopes for 2026. And we were reminded who and whose we are.

8th graders dove into learning about spiritual gifts and how they have been intentionally formed to be an extention of God’s love in the world. Through a gifts assessment, they each found their Top 3—the inward journey. Again, we were reminded who and whose we are.

Next week, 1/14, younger middle schoolers will jump into the story of the Pharisees & Sadducees while 8th graders will continue their exploration into their spiritual gifts and how they work in community. We will meet each Wednesday in January.

On Wednesday, December 17, after pizza at 5:00pm and our final Advent worship at 6:00pm, 50+ kids and 14 adults headed out into the surrounding neighborhood with reflective vests and all manner of light-up hats and glasses for a time of caroling. The weather cooperated and we sang at 20+ houses, splitting into 2 larger groups. We met a diverse set of families, relatives visiting from abroad, college students home for the holdidays, friends from school, and even babies on their way to bed. We sang upbeat tunes, like We Wish You A Merry Christmas and Joy to the World and soft lullabies, like Away In A Manger and Silent Night. When we returned, we had hot chocolate, candycanes and cookies (which were offered by our PreSchool). What a joyful experience… very meaningful! We’ll be off for the Christmas/winter break until January 7, 2026, so see you next year!

A few from last night and this morning. Not pictured: First Thursday at Caribou. On Wednesday, 12/3, we ate Mansetti’s pizza then participated in meaningful Advent worship together in the sanctuary. After that we headed into our small groups to discuss the perfectly imperfect example of disciple, Simon Peter (6/7th grade), and how our sacraments—baptism and communion—are important rituals of connection to Christ and to each other (8th grade). It was a night of talking about welcome, belonging, and unity across our differences. We’ll experience this same schedule (i.e. worship then small groups) on December 10 and 17.
