On Saturday, July 10 the Maui Work Team participated in a project with Maui Cultural Land https://mauiculturallands.org/, in the Honokowai Valley. Extensive archeological surveys of Honokowai Valley conducted in 1999 revealed that beneath the tangle of foliage lay numerous archaeological sites, including homes, farms, trails and heiaus (places of worship). These findings showed that within the valley was once a thriving, self-sufficient village of about 600 families, likely dating from more than a century ago. The team probably learned more than the work we did, removing foliage from the valley floor. When we left to valley some in the group went on a hike through the ”Acid War Zone,” to Nakalele Point and the Nakalele Blowhole. Once again, we ended up going to a beach and coming back to the resort for supper and time in the pool.
