Holyrood Cemetery

Holyrood Cemetery Established to serve the Catholic community in Shoreline and beyond, Holyrood Catholic Cemetery offers a peaceful, sacred space for Christian burial.

Rooted in Catholic faith, we honor the dignity of life and the promise of eternal life in Christ. Holyrood Cemetery was solemnly blessed and dedicated on the Feast of All Saints, November 1, 1953, by the Most Rev. Thomas Connolly, Archbishop of Seattle. Holyrood Cemetery officially opened on January 2, 1954 and has served the growing Catholic community in the Puget Sound area for more than 60 year

s. Some of the earliest burials at Holyrood are in the center two sections, called “God’s Acre.” Cherry trees line the God’s Acre Walkway and gardens at each end beautify the landscape. More recently developed burial sections at Holyrood include Our Mother of Compassion and Lamb of God which face north, overlooking Lake Ballinger. Strolling the Resurrection Walkway at the center of the cemetery visitors connect both physically and spiritually with both the pieta (Christ’s passion) and the risen Christ (Christ’s glory). This journey prefigures our own living, dying and rising to new life.

Today on Administrative Professionals Day, we honor the incredible administrative team at Holyrood Catholic Cemetery—the unsung heroes who go above and beyond the typical administrative duties to keep our cemetery offices afloat.

In addition to their day-to-day responsibilities, they also coordinate committal services, track every memorial stone with precision, and faithfully carry out the sacred sacristan duties within our chapels. Their work is a true ministry—quiet, reverent, and deeply rooted in compassion.

Their dedication ensures that each family is cared for, every burial is dignified, and the memory of every loved one is preserved with honor.

Please join us in thanking Holyrood's Office Manager, Megan Shepherd, and Office Assistants, Arnel Borlaza, JR Day and Geri Henling for the essential roles they play in the mission of Holyrood and the broader ministry of the Church.

We are so grateful for you—today and every day.

📿 In Loving Memory of Pope Francis

Today, we join the Church around the world in mourning the passing of our Holy Father, Pope Francis.

As the first Jesuit pope and a voice for mercy, simplicity, and care for the poor, Pope Francis led the Church with humility and grace. At Holyrood Catholic Cemetery, where the faithful await the promise of the Resurrection, we honor his life of service and his enduring message of hope.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon him.
May he rest in peace.

On this solemn Good Friday, we pause in reverence at Holyrood to remember the passion and sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ. His suffering transformed death into the gateway to eternal life. May our cemetery continue to be a place of quiet hope and sacred rest as we wait in prayer for the joy of the Resurrection.

‘By His wounds, we are healed.’ – Isaiah 53:5

After 18 years of devoted service, we celebrate the retirement of Cathy Moriarty, Family Service Advisor at Holyrood Catholic Cemetery.

Cathy has been a faithful companion to more than 5,600 families—many of whom have cried with her, prayed with her, and searched for signs of God’s nearness and resurrection hope by her side. In some of life’s most tender and sorrowful moments, Cathy brought the peace of Christ through her compassion, wisdom, and quiet strength.

She has given of herself without hesitation, often sacrificing her own time and comfort to serve those in grief with dignity, reverence, and love.

Beloved by the families she ministered to and cherished by her colleagues, Cathy’s presence has been a blessing and a witness to the corporal and spiritual works of mercy in action. Her ministry will continue to echo in the lives she has touched.

We’re not ready to say “Goodbye”—so instead, we say “See you later.” Cathy, you are forever a part of our ACC family, and we will miss you deeply.

Please feel free to share your memories or words of gratitude for Cathy in the comments below—let’s send her off with the love she has so freely given to others.

“Well done, good and faithful servant… Enter into the joy of your Master.”
—Matthew 25:21

Join us in prayer as Cathy embarks on this next chapter, filled with the same grace and faith that have defined her beautiful vocation of service.

🌿 Today we honor St. Callistus I, the Patron Saint of Cemetery Workers 🌿

As cemetery workers, we are entrusted with the sacred duty of caring for the final resting places of loved ones. On this feast day of St. Callistus, we seek his guidance and intercession. Born into slavery, he rose to become the Pope and established some of the first Christian cemeteries in Rome, where the faithful could be buried with dignity.

We ask St. Callistus to watch over and protect all of our staff at Associated Catholic Cemeteries. May he bless the hands of all who serve in this holy ministry, granting them strength, compassion, and grace in their daily work. 🙏

St. Callistus, pray for us. ✝️
