“Faith is an assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen” (Heb 11:1). Faith is complete trust in God in all that he has promised in the Bible. When Abraham was in despair, through faith he obtained hope. At nearly a hundred years old, God promised him a son. His wife, Sarah, was barren. But his strong faith enabled him to look forward to God’s promise. Never was he doubtful in his heart; on the contrary he gave glory to God and was confident of the fulfilment of the promise.

Judging things by sight is unreliable as it depends on our limited wisdom and experience. For example, when Philip told Nathanael, “We have found him of whom Moses in the law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” He immediately replied and said, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Next, when Jesus wanted to test the faith of Philip, He said to Philip, “How are we to buy bread, so that these people may eat?” To this Philip replied, “Two hundred denarii would not buy enough bread for each of them to get a little” (Jn 1:45-46, 6:5-7).

Faith enables man to see the might of God. He who has faith will, in all matters, remain strong and joyful. Thus strength will not fail him, wealth will not corrupt him and poverty will not weaken him. Bearing the cross, he will follow Christ faithfully. Those who depend on themselves will have much worries and sorrows.

The apostolic church also experienced the joy that comes with knowing and following God’s word. After the Pentecost, three thousand souls were added to the fold, and the believers “continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers” (Acts 2:42–47). In those days, hearing God’s word was enough to put godly fear into the believers. Having received the Holy Spirit, this newly established and expanding church had the fear of God among them (Isa 11:1–2). As in the days of the Feast of Tabernacles, they were taught God’s word through the doctrine of the apostles. This cultivated their fear of God, which in turn brought them joy in the Lord. They “ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God” (Acts 2:46b–47a).

(continued...)
The above examples highlight the fact that God’s word alone is sufficient to induce the fear of Him in our hearts. In turn, this fear leads us to receive joy from God. We should avoid trying to generate joy through other means; if we are not perfecting our fear of God through keeping His commandments, then this is not true joy. When God sees that His children truly fear Him, He will personally give them joy. So, whenever we have a joyful experience, we should discern whether it is from God, through godly fear.

May God bless us all to seek the fear of God, so that we can obey God’s will and receive true joy from Him. Amen.

A beautiful & powerful testimony of God’s guidance—leading Bro. David from Ghana to His true church.

“…God is not one to show partiality, but in every nation the one who fears Him and does what is right is acceptable to Him.”

“Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates” (Deut 6:8-9)”

“Children crave the security of routines. Try to begin the habit of prayer as early as you can. I began to teach my newborns to say grace before each feeding by holding their tiny hands together and saying simply, 'In the name of the Lord Jesus we pray. Thank You, Jesus, for giving the baby milk to drink. Hallelujah! Amen.'

By the time Anna began to eat from a high chair, I made sure that she folded up her hands and bowed her head while I said grace before her meal. She would join in the prayer by saying 'Amen' right after she heard the cue word, 'kamsahamnida,' before the end of the prayer. Anna did go through a rebellious period when she refused to join in the prayer. But then, once she got over that, she became the 'prayer police'—that is, she made sure everyone at the table was praying or she would command, 'Pray!'

Our family also goes through nightly 'rituals' before bedtime. We all kneel and listen to Daddy pray, thanking God for the day and asking Him for a good night's sleep for us and our loved ones. Now, as we go through the same prayer each night, our three-year-old can recite the names of the people we are praying for. Sometimes she'll add Grandma's two dogs to the prayer list. After we pray, we sing Barney's 'I Love You' song before we kiss each other good night.”

The Importance of Intercession
Finally, as Christian ministers and parents, we must always intercede for those under our care. Paul’s letters are full of his intercessions for the church (Rom 1:9; Eph 1:16; Col 1:9–12; Phil 1:9–11) and co-workers like Timothy (2 Tim 1:3) and Philemon (Phm 4). Epaphras likewise “labored fervently for [the Colossians] in prayers” so that they could be spiritually mature (Col 4:12).

We do not know if the next generation will love the truth, but we must exert our best effort, and then cry out for the mercy of God in prayer. The Bible tells us that God does not desire that anyone should perish (2 Pet 3:9; Ezek 33:11). We must wholeheartedly appeal to that heart of God in prayer. However, at the same time, God acknowledges the personal freedom of every individual to make his own decision.

Will our children choose to love God and the truth? We do not know. That decision is theirs to make. However, may God, who has mercy on people like me and you, also grant the same incredible mercy to every True Jesus Church youth. In the end, we can only humbly surrender ourselves to our heavenly Father.

As Jesus told us, the end is nigh. May He “who is able to keep [us] from stumbling, and to present [us] faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy” guide us till the last day (Jude 24).
