St. John The Theologian Orthodox Church

St. John The Theologian Orthodox Church St. It is a place to receive caring spiritual support on your path towards discovering God's will for your life.

Come and experience the 2000-year-old Christian faith as taught by the Apostles of Jesus Christ, lived out by today's reverent faithful, who are seeking God in meaningful worship and authentic Christian fellowship. John the Theologian Orthodox Church is a community of compassionate, caring people united in worshipping God, in the English language, in the historical, unchanging truths of Orthodox C

hristianity. Here, you celebrate the joys of life, receive comfort from life's pain, and receive help with life's needs. Our story began in December of 1983 in our first liturgy which brought together people from all over the Town of Brookhaven. Since that time we have grown into a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural Christ-centered church that faithfully follows the 2,000 year-old teachings of the unchanging One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church - the Orthodox Church. We do not follow fads and popular opinions, but the rock-solid teachings of the Holy Scriptures and the ancient Church Fathers. Tired of a church that keeps changing with the times and shifting from under your feet? Come visit us and learn about a church that is:
Catholic, but not Roman...
Orthodox, but not Jewish...
Evangelical, but not Protestant...
Not “denominational” but pre-denominational...
Eternal, heavenly, and joy-filled, waiting for you!

https://www.oca.org/saints/lives/2026/04/08/23-great-and-holy-wednesday
You will notice something interesting about this day: It is the last day we pray the Lenten Prayer of St. Ephraim, and it is also the last time we use the Lenten melodies in the services. When the PSL is over, no more Lenten melodies; the tone of the evening Matins service changes to melodies that will be used over the next two days, signifying a change in the character and thrust of the hymns.
10:00 am Presanctified Liturgy (with the final recitation of the Lenten Prayer of St. Ephraim)
6:30 pm (Brief) Anointing with Holy Unction those who were not at the service last week
7:00 pm Bridegroom Matins

10:00 am Vesperal Liturgy of St. Basil: The “First Resurrection” Service
A rather liturgically dramatic moment happens about half-way through the service when all the purple coverings and vestments are changed to white during the singing of "Arise, O God! Judge the Earth" before the reading of the Gospel, when the first mention of Christ's Resurrection is announced. Hence the name, the "First Resurrection" service.
Tomb Vigil continues with the readings from the Acts of the Holy Apostles

Great and Holy Saturday is the day on which Christ reposed in the tomb. The Church calls this day the Blessed Sabbath. “The great Moses mystically foreshadowed this day when he said:God blessed the seventh day. This is the blessed SabbathThis is the day of rest,on which the only-begotten Son…

Orthodox Christians:
THIS.IS.HOLY.WEEK. The most - THE most - important time of the year, as we prepare for the Holy Resurrection. We need - we MUST - do many things in order to be ready; Here's my RULE OF 8:
1. Stop watching the news. The world will still be turning 7 days from now.
2. Limit your SM. Post photos from church services. Ignore everything else.
3. Read the Scriptures.

With around 90 people at the Nativity today we set a record for attendance at this Great Feast. A joy seeing so many people, parishioners, guests, and friends alike. It was so festive, so joyful, that no one wanted to leave afterwards. Quite the day!

May your Christmas be joyful, joyous, peaceful, happy, filled with laughter, good food, and the love of family and friends.

"The main enemy of the morning prayer is haste, and the evening prayer is fatigue."
If it happens that you oversleep and don't have time to read the morning rule, you can do this: start reading it at home, and finish it - on the road.
If you don't know him by heart yet, then make a prayer to Jesus on the way.
Do not postpone the evening prayer to the peak of fatigue, giving God the distractions of your attention.
"If you are very tired and cannot pray, then tell the Lord:
"Lord, I am tired, I go to rest, I have sinned endlessly in front of you, in front of the Mother of God, the holy guardian angel and all the saints. Jesus! Grant forgiveness of all sins, sleep to the body, peace to the soul.
Lay your head down and rest. But you can do this when you are really tired, without ugliness and self-pity."
