Remember: if you haven't already shared about our KY mission trip, please plan to do so this Sunday! Some ideas of what to include: thank you, your favorite part of the trip, something God showed you or spoke to you or how you've been changed. Lmk which service works best for you! I don't know how many notches there can be, but kick it up a couple more y'all!! Our days have been long, exhausting and emotional and today was especially so as we said goodbye to people we've worked with and served all week. Youth group time has been THE BEST! These students and adults continue to blow me away! Like every other night, we shared our day with each other. Two of our students on construction got the privilege of leading two children to the Lord and another student working in children's ministry was blessed to lead 5 children to the Lord and help with 3 rededications! Praise the Lord!! We took time to pray for one another, the mission, the summer staff, the people we served, and shared our hearts one last time in this special place. We loaded what we could in the trailer tonight and hope to roll out by 7 tomorrow. See you soon!

P.S. some of the adults have spotty cell service and are having a hard time posting and sharing photos. Hopefully, you'll see more pics later!

Take yesterday and kick it up a notch or two! Today my team worked with the food truck which isn't what you think. We drove to different communities, set up and served lunch. I don't have too many pictures to share because it just didn't feel right to take them and share them. We have never seen such poor living conditions! Josie stepped out of her comfort zone again by praying for Miss Vicki and her 15 year old granddaughter who struggles with anxiety. ❤️ There were LOTS of dogs and the kids were thrilled to find a bunch of puppies too! Church tonight was incredible...again! Pastor Kevin talked about Jesus healing the blind man and how sometimes our "blindness" is a display of God's power and sometimes it is to bring change in our lives so we can grow to develop gifts and wisdom or to help others as they struggle. Youth group time was AMAZING as students (and adults) were transparent and encouraging. One student shared how he had led a student to the Lord at the children's day program! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ This is what a family of faith is all about! 'all!

Wow! What a day!! My team did some lawn care today. Our first stop was to Miss Effie's house. We enjoyed talking with her about wildlife, flowers and her grandkids. She was a very sweet woman whose husband is disabled. She is his sole caregiver as he has lost nearly all independence. His time at dialysis is the only time she has to run errands and get things done. She seemed so grateful for the mowing, w**ding, bush trimming and w**d-whacking. The coolest part was that, while I was running lawn care equipment across the road to load up, Owen suggested and led prayer for this woman and her family! ❤️ Our next stop was to Miss Carolyn's home. We were disappointed to find her away! She lost her sister about 3 weeks ago. It sounds like the two were inseparable! They even lived beside each other and could often be found on the porch enjoying each other's company. It was such a blessing to be able to w**d and harvest her garden, w**d-whack, trim and mow both lawns for her. I pray that she was surprised and feels the love God has for her through the words and deeds of others in these upcoming difficult months. An afternoon storm put an end to our lawn care efforts but we had a fantastic visit with a couple who are both battling cancer! While some enjoyed a visit inside with the wife, the rest enjoyed sitting on the porch with the husband watching 10 hummingbirds zooming around chattering and feeding, marvelling over the diversity of wildlife he's seen at their home including bear, coyote, mountain lions, elk, deer, copperheads and more. He shared about his love for fishing, his battle with cancer and the harsh realities and the hilarious stories from his 20 year career as a coal miner. I am so grateful that Big Creek puts an emphasis on relationships vs a checklist! ❤️ Without that objective, we would've missed out on some amazing people and stories and the incredible truth that God can use us, the least of these, to work and move in people's lives! Then, if that wasn't enough, we had a free night with no mission dinner or activities. We supported the local economy and struggling town by having dinner at DQ. The employees were awesome and our Big Creek family helped out by delivering food and waiting on each other. They do more business in one night with us than they do in an entire week! We took some time to snap some group and family photos outside with the Appalachian Mountains and the beautiful but invasive kudzu vine (aka the vine that are the South) as the backdrop. We didn't have church tonight, but man, did we have church tonight!! ❤️ We had a discussion about being family which ended with a teen rededicating his life to the Lord (Praise Jesus!!), prayer and wrapped up with letters from home! Thank you for lifting us up in prayer and for sharing and entrusting these special and wonderful students and adults to us! We love them and are so proud of them! ❤️

Today I'll tell you a little about our work crews. Each church group combines with other groups to serve on a community team (they serve in different capacities every day), construction or children's ministry. Each of our students is with at least one of our adults.
The children's ministry team consists of Brent, Becky, Lindsey, Kaylee, Madison, Zack, Susanna, David, Hunter and Cambree.
Community team 1 is Loretta, Clarke, Josie, Owen and Tobin.
Community team 3 has Mary, Cameron and Aaron.
Construction team 1 is Josh, Gabe, Odom and Yonish.
Construction team 2 is Wendell, Tristan, Kevin, Kaden and Treslyn.
Just because you haven't seen a pic of your kiddo(s) doesn't mean he or she is not working hard! It has been very busy, particularly for the children's ministry who is split up to work with different age groups. Plus, a certain gender of youth leaders is better about taking pics than the other! I'll let you guess who! Anyway, today community crew 1 went to Leslie County High School to paint, clean and organize. They start school next week!

This week is a record-breaker for Big Creek! In 15 years, they have never had 240 people here! There are several groups here including ones from Iowa, Alabama, South Carolina CHAMBERSBURG Mennonite and another family from Chambersburg! Despite a few hiccups, it was a fantastic day! After breakfast (breakfast sandwiches and tater tots during which we also pack a lunch, we start each day with some worship and a devotional before heading out to serve. We serve til around 4:30, enjoy some free time, head for dinner (pork tenderloin or chicken strips) at 5:30 and then gather for our second round of church at 7:30. We end our day with youth groups and a bit more free time before lights out at 10:45. It's a long day! I heard lots of great things from the other groups but can only speak, personally about mine.
