Happy Labor Day, Prince Street Church!

As many of us enjoy a different rhythm today, take a few minutes to reflect on what God showed us yesterday as we brought our seven-week series, The Third Person, to a close.

In “Ordered for Edification” from 1 Corinthians 14:1–12, 16–19, 26–28, we were reminded of a simple but important truth:

The Holy Spirit gives us spiritual gifts to strengthen others and build up the Church.

As we head into a new week, here are two simple ways to put that into practice:

Personally: Look for an opportunity to use what God has given you to strengthen someone else.
As a church: Recognize and encourage the gifts God has placed in others. When you see God working through someone, tell them and help make room for them to grow.

Here’s a question to carry with you this week:

Who can I build up with what God has given me?

As The Third Person comes to an end, may we do more than simply know more about the Holy Spirit. May we increasingly surrender to His work in us and through us as He makes us more like Jesus and uses us for the good of others.

Have a wonderful Labor Day, church family!

Praising God. Serving Others. Cultivating Disciples.

Have you ever stopped to think about what you bring with you when you walk into church on a Sunday morning?

We often think about what we hope to receive—a song that encourages us, a message that speaks to us, or a conversation we needed. But gathering as the Church was never meant to be only about what we receive. God has brought all of us together for a reason.

This Sunday, we’ll bring our series The Third Person to a close with “Ordered for Edification” from 1 Corinthians 14:1–12, 16–19, 26–28. We’ll explore a passage that addresses some aspects of the Holy Spirit’s work that may be unfamiliar to many of us and consider what it means for the way we participate in the life of the Church.

Before Sunday, take a few minutes to read the passage and consider:

What words or ideas does Paul repeat?
What seems to matter most to him?
What might this have to say about the way we participate in the life of the Church today?

Come ready to worship, hear from God’s Word, and consider how the Holy Spirit wants to work in us and through us.

How is God using the gifts He has given you?

Sometimes other people recognize our gifts before we recognize them ourselves. What feels ordinary to us may actually be one of the ways the Holy Spirit is using us to strengthen someone else.

In this week’s PSC Midweek, Pastor John follows up on Sunday’s message, “Understanding the Gifts,” with a challenge to pay attention to the ways God is already working through us.

After you watch, we’d love to hear from you:

Share in the comments one way you’ve seen God using you through the gifts He has given you.

It doesn’t have to be something dramatic. God often uses ordinary conversations, acts of service, words of encouragement, generosity, prayer, leadership, and countless other moments to build up His Church.

Let’s celebrate how God is working through one another!

Different gifts. Different people. One Spirit. One body. All pointing to Jesus.

Have you ever wondered why certain ways of serving others seem to come naturally to you?

Maybe you’re the person people turn to for encouragement. Maybe you notice needs others overlook. Maybe you love explaining Scripture, giving generously, caring for someone who is hurting, or helping others move forward. Those may be clues to how the Holy Spirit has uniquely equipped you.

Yesterday, we continued The Third Person with “Understanding the Gifts.” We looked at the variety of spiritual gifts found throughout the New Testament and were reminded that while our gifts may be different, they all come from the same Spirit and are given to build up the Church and glorify Jesus.

This week, take two simple steps:

Ask someone where they see God using you. Ask a mature believer who knows you well, “Where do you see God using me to strengthen other people?”

Tell someone where you see God using them. Don’t assume they already know. Your encouragement may help them recognize how the Holy Spirit is working through them.

The Holy Spirit gives His people a variety of gifts, and understanding these gifts helps us recognize how He has equipped us to build up His Church and glorify Christ.

Let’s be a church that helps one another recognize and use what God has given us. Different gifts. One Spirit. One body. And everything ultimately pointing to Jesus.

God has gifted you for a reason.

This morning at Prince Street Church, we’re continuing The Third Person with a message called “Understanding the Gifts.” We’ll explore several of the specific spiritual gifts found throughout the New Testament and discover how the Holy Spirit equips different people in different ways to build up His Church and glorify Christ.

Maybe you already have a pretty good idea of how God has gifted you. Maybe you’re still trying to figure that out. Either way, there is a place for you in the body of Christ, and we’d love for you to join us this morning as we worship Jesus and open His Word together.
