In my experience, too few Christians appreciate the Holy Spirit's work in the world. He was sent by the Father and the Son to encapsulate who Jesus in flesh was. As a part for the whole (synecdoche), the physical manifestation of the Spirit, like either a wind-blown leaf or dove-like creature, is an individual's belief that Jesus is God almighty, the Son, the incarnate Son of Man, and the Messiah. Further, the Holy Spirit couples Jesus's crucifixion and resurrection as salvific work.
Thus, when the Holy Spirit was poured out onto the earth, Peter explains the event by verbally stating who the Lord Jesus Christ is and what He did for men's salvation. Further, the explanation results in people believing it for salvation and being baptized (Acts 2). Peter explains later that only the Holy Spirit removes the flesh's filth even while baptism saves one's wrong thoughts , and subsequent behaviors, from continuing (1 Pet. 3:18ff.). Moreover, Paul tells us that the Holy Spirit offers all people, circumcised flesh or uncircumcised flesh in the physical realm, through the Son's work to the Father as those individuals believe, by the Father's grace, in Jesus Christ (Eph. 2:18, 2:1-10).
Too many attempt to understand by the senses the Spirit with application to how He makes one feel. We get "goosebumps" or "the hairs on the back of my neck stood up." We think we sense the Spirit when we sense God's love (often described nearly as if God romantically loves us).We look for acts of supposed power or skillfully worded , inspiring messages. Such ideas demean Him and His work.
The one who can discern the Holy Spirit, however, perceives the Father's pleasure (1 Cor. 1:21). Specially, we act like children of God when we find it pleasurable that salvation comes only through believing a message preached (without explanation). That is, we love the truth that people need to believe Jesus is almighty God in flesh, who acting as Messiah died in place of others (His crucified flesh efficaciously removing the believer's flesh) and arose from the dead as the Resurrection and Life (efficaciously given to believers of this gospel).
