John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them and they follow me:
28 And I give unto them eternal life, and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

Hazel Mae King, age 93 of Sherwood, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Hazel was born on October 2, 1932, in Sherwood to the late Walter M. and Nannie E. (Smith) Haney. During her high school years, Hazel would ride the train from Sherwood over to Decherd, where she graduated high school in 1950. After high school she worked at the Hat Factory until 1979 and retired from Lanier’s clothing after twenty-five years of service. Slowing down was not an option for Hazel. She would send out cards to those who needed words of encouragement and was always there to lend hand in taking people to the doctor, going to the store, or even out to eat. Hazel loved traveling to the Smokie Mountains with her family several times a year. In most recent years you could find her reading her Bible and working wordsearch puzzles. Hazel was a lifelong member of the Sherwood Emmanuel Apostolic Church. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Vernon King; and sisters, Annie Byrd and Lena Ray Garner. Hazel is survived by her loving children, Marilyn (Kenneth) Barnes, Randy (Debbie) King, and Gerald (Debra) King; grandchildren, Glen (Kim) Barnes, Cindy Meaker, Kandi (Bryan) Schubert, Chris (Julie) King, and Eric (Leauna) King; great-grandchildren, Alexis and Landon Barnes, Elizabeth (Glenn) Mitchell, Austin Meaker, Jonathan King, Megan (Mason) Van, Brookelynn and Bryanna Schubert; great-great-grandchildren, Jase, Oliver, and one on the way. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, from 5:00pm -9:00pm at Sherwood Emmanuel Apostolic Church. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at 2:00pm at Sherwood Emmanuel Apostolic Church. Interment will follow in Mt. View Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers. The family would like to give a special thanks to Enhabit Home Health and Gentiva Hospice for the love and care show to Mrs. Hazel over the last several months.
