On this 250th birthday of the United States, we give thanks for those who dreamed of liberty, who sacrificed for justice, and who believed that a nation could continue becoming something better than it had been before.

We also confess that we have not always lived up to those ideals. We have wounded one another with our words, our fear, our prejudice, and our silence. We have too often loved being right more than loving our neighbors.

God of every nation and every people, give us all faithful courage. Give us the humility to admit our failures, the wisdom to seek truth, and the compassion to care for those who are hurting, especially those whose voices are too easily ignored.

Bless our leaders with integrity. Bless our communities with kindness. Bless your Church with the courage to be peacemakers rather than partisans. And may we be blessed to become the kind of people who love mercy, do justice, and walk humbly with you, not only today, but every day.

Happy Independence Day. May God continue to guide us toward a more perfect union. Amen.

Out of an abundance of caution due to the threat of tornadoes and straight-line winds, we are canceling our Maundy Thursday service this evening.

We are disappointed not to gather for such a meaningful night… but your safety matters more.

Take time tonight, if you can, to pause… light a candle… say a prayer… remember the love of Christ poured out for the world.

Praying for all in the path of these storms—
for protection, for peace, and for God’s presence to be felt even in the midst of uncertainty.

Re: Loud Kid Policy

Effective Immediately

At Sherrill United Church of Christ, we are committed to transparency and accountability in all matters of church life. The following document outlines our comprehensive procedures regarding loud children in worship.

Please consider this your official notice of policy clarification.

Effective immediately, if a family is considering visiting Sherrill United Church of Christ and they have a loud kid, the following options are available:

Option 1: The family should bring the kid.
Option 2: The family should make sure they bring the kid.
Option 3: The family is to see that the child is brought to church.
Option 4: The kid is absolutely welcome and expected.

We believe the sound of children in worship is not a distraction. It is evidence of life, growth, and the future of the church.

God made their vocal cords and put air in those lungs at birth. He put the wiggle and the volume in the kid!

If your child makes noise, you are not bothering us. You are blessing us.

Policy enacted. No exceptions. See you Sunday at 10am. You and your children will be loved and welcomed!
