Sin is our greatest problem -- more universal and destructive than poverty, war, or disease. As Romans 3:23 reminds us, all have sinned and fallen short of God's glory. But here is the good news: Jesus did not come only to forgive sin. He came to set us free from its bo***ge entirely.

Paul's words in Romans 6 could not be clearer -- those who have died to sin are no longer its slaves. And when temptation comes, 1 Corinthians 10:13 assures us that God is faithful and will always provide a way of escape.

This week we are beginning a series taking a closer look at sin -- what it is, why we fall into it, and how we overcome it. If sin has a hold on your life, you do not have to stay there. God's grace offers both forgiveness and freedom.

What kind of friend never abandons you, never takes advantage of you, and gave His life for you? This Sunday's message reminded us that Jesus is that friend -- an abiding, unfailing friend to the outcast, the grieving, the sinner, and the struggling.

From Matthew sitting at the tax collector's booth to the weeping sisters at Lazarus's tomb, Jesus met people in their pain and their shame. John 11:35 tells us He wept. He felt it. He still does.

And His friendship is just as real today. He stands with us (2 Timothy 4:17), intercedes for us (Hebrews 7:25), and His word guides us away from self-destruction. But friendship runs both ways -- He said, "You are my friends if you do whatsoever I command you" (John 15:14).

He did the hard part. He hung on a cross, was buried, and rose again -- for you. Come to Him in faith.

Light appears over 253 times in the Bible and consistently stands in contrast to darkness, representing God's presence, activity, and glory. Jesus declared himself the light of the world in John 8:12, and his followers are called to reflect that light.

Darkness is not simply an opposing force. It is the absence of God. And that reframing changes everything about how we see the world around us and our role within it. We are not just nice people trying to do good things. We are carriers of divine presence in a world that is genuinely, spiritually dark.
Walk as children of light as Paul urges in Ephesians 5, and to reflect the light of Christ to everyone around us.

This Sunday's message reminded us of a powerful truth: we are called to be the light of the world in a place filled with darkness. Drawing from Matthew 5:13-16 and the opening verses of John's Gospel, we were challenged to reflect on what it means to carry the light of Christ into every corner of our lives.

Jesus declared, "I am the light of the world" in John 8:12, and that same light lives in every believer. The world is not dark because darkness is more powerful than light -- it is dark because the light is absent. When we walk closely with Christ, we reflect his glory to those around us who are still searching.

If you have never stepped out of the darkness and into the light of Jesus Christ, today is the day. Simple, trusting faith in him changes everything. We hope you will join us and bring someone with you who needs to hear this message.
