Devotion 9/8, He'll Bring You Through!

"Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, 'I will never leave you nor forsake you'"
Hebrews 13:5

Change and the unknown can make our hearts race. Whether you face a new job, a health test, or a hard family season, the future looks blurry. At the edge of a brand-new chapter, Moses told Joshua and the people a life-changing truth: God does not just watch from a distance. He steps into your tomorrow before you even get there.
No matter our circumstance, Father God is with us. He never leaves, His hand is right there ready for us to seek Him, for direction, protection and support .
He goes before you: God is already in your next week and your next year. He prepares the way and lines up what you need.
He stays beside you: You never walk into a room or a trial alone. His hand holds yours right now.
He never quits on you: People might let you down, but God will not walk away or drop you.

Lord, thank you that I am never alone. When tomorrow feels scary, help me trust that you are already there. Calm my racing heart. Give me peace and quiet strength for today. Amen.

Devotion 9/7, Search Me, Oh God!

Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. Proverbs 16:18

Billy Graham-"David, king of ancient Israel, found himself in the midst of a confused national situation. His kingdom was torn by internal strife. Slave hated master; master hated slave. People blamed the government, and government blamed the people. David looked about him and saw that every man thought himself perfect. Each individual placed blame upon other individuals. David knew that if sinful pride continued to increase, his nation would collapse spiritually. He knew that economic depression, moral disintegration, or military defeat inevitably follow spiritual decline. So David turned to God, and it was revealed to him by the Spirit of God that the spiritual tide of his nation could rise no higher than the spiritual level of his own heart. So he fell on his knees in utter humility and prayed, “Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my thoughts: and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting” (Psalm 139:23, 24)."

Lord, deliver me from the sin of pride, and fill me with continuing humility as I go about the tasks before me this day. I seek your presence in my thoughts, words and deeds this day, that I might live this day for Your kingdom. Amen.

Devotion 9/6, Loving God and Loving Our Neighbors

“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.”. Matthew 5:17

What about God’s laws? The Old Testament is filled with laws, rules, and regulations. Jesus fulfilled those when he died to pay for our sin once and for all (Hebrews 9-10) and then rose from the grave to give us new life. But the Ten Commandments are not optional. Jesus summarized those when he taught about loving God and loving our neighbors (Matthew 22:37-40). The Ten Commandments tell us how we are to live in response to God and with the people around us.
As we reflect on the Ten Commandments, we should see how relevant they are for our everyday lives. And are we living by those commandments as they were intended, or by a variation that is more socially acceptable.

Father God, only in loving and obeying you, as we have learned through Jesus, can we find peace, joy, and new life. Help us to live for you and to share your love and good news with neighbors everywhere. Amen.

Devotion 9/5, My Safe Refuge

You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word. Psalm 119:114

Philip Ware-"Where can we go to remain secure from the onslaught of bad ideas, evil influences, and false hopes perpetrated by social media? We can go to God and his Word, the Scriptures, and to Jesus, who is the fulfillment of these Scriptures and is the Living Word (John 1:1-18). While people can be disloyal and misguided, God has proven his faithfulness through his word, in sending Jesus, and by keeping his loving promises. He promises never to leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5-6; Romans 8:38-39), and his truth and his promises stand forever. God is our refuge, shield, fortress, strong foundation, and rock as we give our hearts to the Word of God."

Almighty God, you alone are trustworthy. You keep your word and fulfill your promises. Forgive me when I trust my own insight and the wisdom of others rather than seeking your will in your Word. Please give me your wisdom as I seek your will and trust in your promises. In the name of Jesus, your ultimate Word, I pray. Amen.

Devotion 9/4, Luke 15:11-32, the story of the prodigal son. (Please read).

This is the story of a father, a rebellious younger son who wastes his inheritance, and a resentful older brother and is used to illustrate God's deep forgiveness and unconditional love.
So taking that story one step a little farther, does your church illustrate a deep forgiveness and unconditional love.
Or one more step, does your home illustrate a deep forgiveness and unconditional love.
Are we waiting with open arms like our story today, to celebrate a prodigal coming home?

Lord, create in me a heart of forgiveness and unconditional love. I pray I am a witness to your Word and truth, that others will come home to you through your Holy Spirit. Amen.

Devotion 9/3, Faith Pleases God!

"But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him". Hebrews 11:6

Billy Graham-"Faith pleases God more than anything else. The Christian life is dependent upon faith. We stand on faith; we live on faith. Faith is loved and honored by God more than any other single thing. The Bible teaches that faith is the only approach that we have to God. No man has sins forgiven, no man goes to heaven, no man has assurance of peace and happiness, until he has faith in Jesus Christ."
It doesn't matter where a person is in their faith walk, but that one's faith is in Christ, the Son of God, who died on the cross for our sins?
Amen I building His kingdom focused on His word and my faith, or distracted by Satan on the things of this world that are not in line with God's purpose for His people?

Devotion 9/2, Trust The Risen And Living Savior Forever!

“Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen!” Luke 24:5-6

The lives of people, animals, insects, plants, and all creation are cyclical. The cycle—birth, life, and death--can be both delightful and vicious, and both bright and dreary. Then the next generation takes its turn. Many people settle for that, but we may also ask, “Is that all there is?”
The men and women who had followed Jesus went to his tomb expecting to find the dead among the dead. So it was shocking to be confronted with the surprise that Jesus had risen from the dead! As Jesus’ followers have come to know, he is alive today, tomorrow, and forever.
Jesus’ followers celebrate an everlasting spring. After his resurrection, Bible passages call him “the firstfruits” of those who have died. As his followers, we share in his victory over death. We follow Jesus from death into life, certain that in him we have resurrection life. We can trust the risen and living Savior forever!

Creator God, thank you for giving us “new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead” (1 Peter 1:3). Live in and through us, we pray, by your Holy Spirit. I pray I might live my life building Your kingdom in all I say and do today. Amen.

Devotion 9/1, Let Your Light Shine

"You are the light of the world. Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven."
Matthew 5:14-16

Focusing on all the noise of satan in the news, on social media and in our daily discussions is the opposite of what Jesus is telling us. It's not building God's Kingdom! When we do, satan wins, we are not reflecting His light. But when we rebuke the noise and satan, we strengthen our faith and God's kingdom by being the light we are called to be.
In life, with what we talk about or do, we will either point others away from God or show them that allegiance to God is essential. We must have a passion for walking in God's light. If we are going to reflect his light, we must live in that light. Let's make an intentional effort today to shine the light of God's holiness, love, and grace in all we do and say around others so they can find their way to the one who is truly the Light of the World (John 8:12).

O God, may the words of my mouth, the actions of my life, and the influence of my deeds show others your holiness, love and grace. May my influence lead others to Jesus so they can find a new life in Him and come to know Jesus as their true Light of life (John 1:4). In Jesus' name, I pray that my life will shine so others may see Jesus. Amen.

Devotion 8/31, Trusting God’s Grace To Lead The Way, "In His Time"!

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
Proverbs 3:5

I get three themes that come to mind in this verse:
Whole-hearted trust: God asks for all of your heart, not just a small part.
No self-reliance: You must stop trying to figure out every single detail using only your own mind.
Letting go: True faith means resting when life does not make sense.
From those three themes I need to focus on three phases of my faith:
Surrender control: Give my current worries to God instead of stressing over outcomes.
Acknowledge God: Talk to Him about my daily choices, big and small.
Find rest: Stop carrying the heavy weight of trying to be my own director.

Dear Lord, I confess that I often try to figure everything out on my own. Forgive me for leaning on my own fragile understanding. Today, I choose to place my life, my worries, and my future into Your hands. Guide my steps and grant me the peace that comes from trusting You completely. And may I rest in the assurance of Your plan in Your time. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Devotion 8/30, Thank You God For Loving Us

He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all — how will he not also, along with him, give us all things? Romans 8:32

This verse gives us great hope doesn’t it? The God of the universe is watching very closely over all that concerns us in this life (Psalm 138:8). Even when circumstances are unpleasant or tragic, He is in control and will give us all the strength, comfort, and even joy that we need to come through the other side of the trial praising Him for all that He has done. Nothing can touch us, but that He has allowed, and if He allows it, then there is something we are to learn from it.
The verse just prior to this is one of my favorites in all of Scripture, “If God is for us, who can be against?” (vs.31)

Thank You Father God for never leaving me or forsaking me, thank You for Your faithfulness, and Your steadfast love and care for me. I give You praise this day and I give you thanks for your love, mercies, blessings and grace. Amen!
