Devotion 6/9, Is There Room In Your Heart?

Let us make a little chamber, I pray thee, on the wall; and let us set for him there a bed, and a table, and a stool, and a candlestick: and it shall be, when he cometh to us, that he shall turn in thither. 2 Kings 4:10

I wonder how God wants to use our spaces or our availability, wherever we may be. What are we willing to do to prepare for others? Are we ready for when Jesus calls us? I wonder if having a space available is about knowing that “the kingdom of God has come near”.
Korean people pray in expectation so that they are ready for when Jesus shows up, wanting to do something in their lives. They are in welcoming mode. They are prepared so that when Jesus or someone he has sent shows up, they can accommodate as needed, serving as people of peace.
The woman in our text was a person of peace for Elisha, and I hope we too become people of peace for whoever may be in need of us.
Are you looking forward to the next person Jesus is planning to send in your direction? Is there room in your heart?

Father, help us to create space in our lives so that we can be people of peace to whomever you send into our lives. Thank you for challenging us to be prepared for every encounter. May I be of strength of heart and spirit when called each day. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Devotion 6/8, He Never Let's Go, We do!

If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer. Matthew 21:22

Jesus’ interaction with the fig tree is a kind of object lesson showing that he wants the religious leaders to bear fruit as they are called to do—that is, pointing God’s people to repentance and faith rather than being concerned about their own authority and status.
Jesus invites everyone to have faith. The gift of faith is for all who believe.
Believe, receive, and live!
God shows his faithfulness by responding to the prayers of his people.

Lord Jesus, fill us with faith in you. May we be your witnesses and bear fruit because we are rooted in you. In your name we pray, Amen.

Devotion 6/7, Its "All" About The Cross!

May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. Galatians 6:14

Why did Paul glory in the cross? He gloried in it because the most selfless act ever performed by men or angels took place upon it. He saw-emanating from that rough, unartistic beam upon which the Son of God had been crucified—the radiant hope of the world, the end of the believer’s bo***ge to sin, and the love of God shed abroad in the hearts of men. A lone man dying on a cross did more to restore man’s lost harmony with God, his fellowman, and himself, than the combined genius and power of earth’s most powerful kings.
I cannot fully comprehend the mystery of Christ’s atonement but one thing I am sure of, all who come to the cross in simple, trusting faith lose all their guilty stains and find peace with God.

Father, help me to glory in the cross of Jesus and more fully understand the tremendous meaning it has for me as a believer and for all who would come to its foot and kneel. Your grace overwhelms my heart, that a sinner like myself has a place in your kingdom. All praise and glory to you Lord, Amen.

Devotion 6/6, Turn My Eyes Upon Jesus!
.. believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead ... Romans 10:9

Billy Graham-"It is impossible to believe anything into existence. The Gospel did not come into being because men believed it. The tomb was not emptied of Christ’s body that first Easter because some faithful persons believed it. The fact preceded the faith. We are psychologically incapable of believing without an object of our faith. The object of Christian faith is Christ. Faith means more than an intellectual assent to the claims of Christ. You are not called upon to believe something that is not credible, but to believe in the fact of history that in reality transcends all history. Faith actually means surrender and commitment to the claims of Christ. We do not know Christ through the five physical senses, but we know Him through the sixth sense that God has given every man—the ability to believe."

As I keep my eyes on You, Lord, my faith does not waiver. Too often I look down and stumble. Let me comprehend today afresh the power that raised You from the dead. In Your name I pray, Amen.

Devotion 6/5, I Thank God!

The fool says in his heart there is no God.
Psalm 14:1

To rob heaven of God is to rob ourselves of grace, hope, and future. How foolish to forget that behind a Creation of wonder, order, variety, beauty, power, and pattern is the Grand Creator. He is far greater than his handiwork, and we dare not ignore, deny, or dismiss him, for then we become our own gods, left to only worship ourselves and the beauty created for us. How small our world becomes when we do deny there is God (1 Corinthians 1:18-32).
To deny God is to accept satan, period. It's a non-believers free pass from accountability to a higher being. But how curious is it that those same non-believers will be knocking at God's door in prayer when things go bad. He's not a god of convenience. He's a God of love, grace, mercy and blessings, and he knows our hearts.

God Almighty, Creator and Sustainer, we thank you for not only being there always as the great "I AM," (Exodus 3:13-15; Hebrews 13:5-6) but being with each of us this very day. Please use us, your children, to awaken our skeptical world to the wonder, glory, majesty, righteousness, grace, and love that is you! In Jesus name, we pray and praise you, O God. Amen.

Devotion 6/4, To Think He Died For Me!

He was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. Isaiah 53:5-6

Our precious Lord Jesus suffered all five types of wounds known to medical science:
Contusions – they hit Him with rods.
Lacerations – He was scourged.
Penetrating wounds – they jammed a crown made of thorns on His head.
Perforating wounds – they pounded nails into His hands and feet.
Incised wounds – they stuck a spear into His sides.
If you have never placed your faith in Christ, I beg of you to do so today. It's is all about the Savior who bled and died and rose again for you! But in order for it to save you, you must place your trust in Jesus Christ and do as God’s Word says in Romans 10:9-10:
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

Lord Jesus, thank You for taking my punishment for sin on the cross at Calvary. Thank You for loving me and desiring a personal relationship with me. I give You all praise and glory this day, Amen!

Devotion 6/3, Be Humble
...he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
Matthew 23:12

Billy Graham-"In almost every instance in the Bible, as well as in life, pride is associated with failure, not success. We hear a great deal about the inferiority complex, but the superiority complex of pride is seldom spoken of. It was pride that caused the fall of Lucifer, and he became Satan, the devil. It was pride that led King Saul down to a shameful and untimely death. It was pride that caused Peter to deny his Lord.
The greatest act of humility in the history of the universe was when Jesus Christ stooped to die on the cross of Calvary. And before any man can get to heaven, he must kneel at the foot of the cross and acknowledge that he is a sinner, that he has broken the Ten Commandments of God, and that he needs the grace of God in Christ. No man can come proudly to the Savior.

Lord Jesus, You suffered such humiliation and pain for me on the cross. I ask You, humbly, to forgive my pride and errant ways that nailed You there. I pray for strength of Spirit to live a humble life focused on You and the Cross. Amen.

Devotion 6/2, The Wonder Of It All

Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced. . . . He is the LORD our God. . . .Psalm 105:5-7

We are people who forget. We need reminders, and we need to know that remembering can help us face the future.
How can we make the name of God known among the nations? The closing of this psalm calls us to “keep his precepts and observe his laws.” We make God’s name known by living in line with God’s ways and forsaking our own selfish ways.
When we remember the stories of the faithful God and his wayward people, we are encouraged and challenged that the Lord always keeps his promises and will continue to do so for us.
That is who the Lord is!

Dear God, thank you for your faithful care for all the generations of your people. Help us to remember all you have done so that we may live by faith before you and make you known to those we come in contact with each day. In Jesus, Amen.

Devotion 6/1, Where Do I Go?

My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Psalm 62:7

Philip Ware-"Who we are, what becomes of us in life, and what we accomplish of significance are all in God's hands. We cannot achieve lasting honor for ourselves without his blessing. We cannot secure our future or our safety without his protection and blessing. The basis of all achievement and glory is dependent upon our willingly placing our lives in his care because he alone is permanent, eternal, and offers us life that is unending, with our future secure."

Holy Father, you are my Rock, the Fortress of my life. I place myself in your care, willingly and dependently. Please take charge of my future and use me for your glory in that future. In you I take refuge, and on your strength I rely to make my days worthwhile and my life to make a difference in the world for Jesus. I seek you and your Kingdom above all other entanglements, distractions, or goals. In the precious name of Jesus, I pray this. Amen.

Devotion 5/31, The Joy of Salvation

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

David had lost the joy of his salvation after he sinned with Bathsheba and had her husband Uriah killed. He had let sin take over and control his thoughts and actions. But now he is aware of just how terribly he has sinned before God and he basically throws himself on the mercy of God with a humble, broken, and contrite heart.
We do not have to commit the very same sins that David committed to lose the joy of our salvation. Notice it was the “joy” of his salvation that was lost, not his salvation. He was secure in God for eternity, but his close fellowship with God was broken because of his unconfessed sin. A person who is living in sin has no purpose in their heart to live a godly life, their only thought is to please themselves, not God. But a person who is purposing in their heart to live for Christ will be very convicted when they sin and do as our verse for today in 1 John 1: 9 says and confess it to God.

Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. (Psalm 139:23-24) Amen.
