Hello Friends. Two days ago, Bishop Robert Gruss proclaimed a Year of the Holy Spirit for the Catholic Diocese of Saginaw. This is a marathon, not a sprint, as we spend the next year growing closer to the 3rd Person of the Holy Trinity. The song below was one we heard during Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament at NCYC. It is a great song for us to carry forward into a loving relationship with the Holy Spirit.

So come down
Spirit, when You move You make my heart pound
When You fill the room
You're here and I know You are moving
I'm here and I know You will fill me

Next Thursday, May 14th, St. Vincent de Paul will host the diocesan Commitment ceremony for those who have completed their 1st and 2nd years of formation.

Liz and Steve Bacon of our parish will be among the 12 candidates committing to 2 more years of formation before commissioning in 2028. You are invited to come support them; it is also an excellent opportunity to learn more about Lay Ecclesial Ministry in the Catholic Diocese of Saginaw.

Hello friends, here is a great, really brief post to remind you of two things. This clip comes from Steve Angrisano's keynote at NCYC this past year. As we go forward on our pilgrimage of 33 Days to Eucharistic Glory (begun yesterday), let Jesus consume you.

Also, remember to set aside September 27, 2026 for our 50th Anniversary of the Dedication of St. Vincent de Paul Church and the evenings of September 28 & 29 for our Parish Mission with Steve Angrisano.

I Heard it in the Homily
Fr Loren

This morning, we heard Psalm 23 “The Lord is my shepherd, there is nothing I shall want.“ This third Sunday of Easter is Good Shepherd Sunday. God always chose a shepherd to lead his people - Abraham, Moses, David – always a Shepherd. Why?

One day, God was looking for a special person to lead his people and Moses was tending a flock. A little lamb ran away and was drinking from a stream. Moses went running after him. “Little One, I did not know you ran away because you were thirsty. I will take better care of you.” Moses picked up the lamb and brought it back to the flock. God made Moses the Good Shepherd to lead the people out of Egypt and into the promised to land.

There are three qualities a Good Shepherd must have. One, be a committed person to the flock. The shepherd does everything for the flock 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Two, a Good Shepherd must be loving and caring for the flock. A Good Shepherd does not have a job – this is a way of life. The Good Shepherd loves his life and his flock. He would give his life for them. Three, a Good Shepherd must be brave and courageous like David, a little boy, who was willing to put his life on the line to save the flock.

God calls all of us to be Good Shepherds to the people he puts in our lives.

Homework this week: read over Psalm 23 and pick out the qualities that bring you close to God. “The Lord is my shepherd, there is nothing I shall want.”

I Heard it in the Homily
Fr Fred 3-15-26

Every three years we come to this gospel story about site, blindness, light, and darkness. Maybe you can relate: in the fifth grade I started wearing glasses and over the years, have had some issues like lens replacements, detached retina, Etc. I’ve had many pairs of glasses, sunglasses, even ski goggles!! something wonderful has happened in the past 2 to 3 generations. 80 years ago we would never have imagine what things are like today. Back then we had stereo, radios, records, big TVs. Today we might think why would we want to go back to those times when we have so many new things? Do we still have the faith of our youth or do we try to see God in a new fresh way?

In the gospel, Jesus restores the blind man to faith and to sight despite doubt from those around. What about us? What is the condition of our Faith vision? Is it getting rusty? Is it not where it should be? In baptism a candle was a lit and we “receive the light of Christ.“

Lent helps us sharpen our faith vision, making time for extra prayer, sacraments, and looking at our God and our church in a new light.

We have our work cut out for us. “I once was lost, but now I am found; I once was blind, but now I see.” New vision is our call and task this lent as we go toward Easter.
