First Baptist Church Shenandoah Worship Sunday at 10:45 AM The First Baptist Church of Shenandoah, Iowa was organized June 18,1871 with twenty charter members.

For the first six months Mentzer Hall was rented. On July 6, 1871 the first pastor was called and on December 4, 1873 the first baptismal service was held at the Nishna River and a hole was broken in the ice to baptize the 5 candidates. The first church building was dedicated on December 12, 1880. Within the next five years sufficient funds
were on hand to purchase a bell which would remind the co

mmunity that the church doors were always open. Today the same bell rests in the tower clock. On December 17, 1905 the present building was dedicated. In June 1906 the church had a pipe organ installed, it was the first one in the city of Shenandoah. In 1911 the city was given a Seth Thomas clock and by agreement it was put in the belfry of the First Baptist Church.

Former Pastor Paul Brigham passed away on March 19. His visitation will be this Thursday, March 27 from 5-7 PM at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home in Lincoln, Nebraska. Celebration of life will be held Friday, March 28 at 10 AM. Condolences may be sent to his wife, Barb at 803 Roanoke Ct Apt 86 Lincoln, Nebraska 68510.
