As of Jan 15, St. John Lutheran Church, Shenandoah, has closed its doors. Money and volunteers have been in short supply, especially since covid. Most of our ministry has been with the disenfranchised of one sort or another, and demographic realities make it difficult for a “normal” congregation to exist in this setting.

But this does not mean that ministry won’t happen! Pastor Mindy is now moving towards retirement; once the Synod Council and our Bishop approves her retired status, she remains a pastor of the synod, now on the “retired roster,” which means she can still preach, preside at communion, and serve informally in the community at large. There remains a core group and an extended community who have existed informally as “Friends of St. John, Shenandoah” and communicate in some part through a page of that name. We are remaining informal, but worship and works of mercy and justice can continue. If you are in need of prayer, hospital visits, memorial services, etc., get in touch via the fb page or just find Pr. Mindy. If you want to help develop new or renewed ministries, be in touch! We are listening carefully for the Spirit’s leading.

Send your Spirit, Lord, to rally the resolve of the nations of the earth to find pathways to save human lives, protect human rights, and to resolve the hardships of those seeking refuge, asylum, and safety. Hear our prayer for the peoples of Afghanistan. This we pray as followers of Jesus, the Prince of Peace. Amen.
