The LORD provides the resources needed to do the tasks he assigns. We must be willing to admit our needs to the Christian community through whom God often meets our uncomfortable needs.

Moses' resistance to God's direction should cause us to consider, when asked to do something, are we refusing God's direction? Are we simply making excuses because we want God to send someone else?

Self-sufficiency is a myth. Even though we are uncomfortable expressing our needs we need the resources the LORD provides for us in the Christian community.

We live in the time of redemption - moving from the disordered creation after the fall toward the restored creation when Christ returns. Christians are called to be a part of that redemption; that includes human relationships. We should seek to move human relationships toward what they will be when Christ returns.

The very good community of Adam and Eve does not last but is marred by sin. Neither their relationship with each other nor their relationship with God are safe places any more. Community is broken; it is not good.

God's original creation was good. When the LORD added human beings the creation is very good. But when the man, Adam, is alone in the account from Genesis 2 God says it is "Not Good." Huan beings were created for community.

There is a purpose in our memorials and remembrance. It is to remember people and what they have done for us. And, even more, to remember what the LORD has done and remind us to count our blessings.

Samuel sets up the Ebenezer Stone - the stone of help - to remind Israel of the LORD's help that day and throughout their history. This is a great purpose of memorials to remind us of the acts of God.
