There is a purpose in our memorials and remembrance. It is to remember people and what they have done for us. And, even more, to remember what the LORD has done and remind us to count our blessings.

While God's people worship in repentance for treating God as a weapon of war the Philistines attack. The people keep worshipping and in offering an innocent lamb as a sacrifice this act of worship points to the powerful intervention of Jesus in human history.

Memorials are important in our lives. Whether flags at a grave for Memorial Day or the marking of a great event like a wedding, memorials remind us of God's blessings on our behalf. The Ebenezer stone is one such memorial.

Leviticus commands the people of Israel to love their neighbors by not harvesting the edges of their fields. In our setting this calls us to leave margin in our lives and allow these margins to become the holy ground where we care for our neighbors.
