📖 Romans 3:26–28 (NKJV)
26 to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? Of works? No, but by the law of faith.
28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from the deeds of the law.
These verses capture the heartbeat of the gospel, the astonishing truth that God saves sinners by grace through faith, not by works.
Paul explains that the cross of Christ reveals both God’s justice and God’s mercy.
God is just! He does not ignore sin or pretend it doesn’t matter.
But He is also the justifier, through Jesus’ sacrifice, He declares guilty sinners righteous.
At the cross, justice and mercy meet perfectly.
The punishment our sin deserved fell on Jesus, and the righteousness we could never earn was freely given to us.
Think about that phrase:
“That He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.”
God didn’t bend the rules to forgive you.
He satisfied them in full, through His own Son.
When you feel guilty, condemned, or unworthy, remember:
Your standing with God isn’t based on your performance but on Christ’s finished work.
That truth sets you free, free from striving, free from comparing, free from the burden of trying to “be enough.”
Verse 27 – Where is boasting then?
Paul’s question pierces our pride.
If salvation is by grace, then there’s no room for bragging.
No one can say, “I earned God’s favor.”
All we can say is, “Jesus did it all.”
Faith doesn’t give us something to boast about
It gives us Someone to boast in: Christ.
Verse 28 – “Justified by faith apart from the deeds of the law.”
This is the simple, liberating conclusion:
We are justified (declared righteous) not by rule-keeping, rituals, or moral effort, but by trusting in Jesus alone.
Faith is not a work, it’s the open hand that receives the gift.
❤️ Takeaway Truth
You are not defined by what you do for God,
but by what God has done for you in Christ.
When we rest in that truth, our lives overflow with humility, gratitude, and love.
The more we realize we are accepted by grace, the more we want to live for the One who gave it.
🙏
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for being both just and the justifier.
Thank You that through Jesus’ cross, my sin is paid for and Your righteousness covers me.
Help me to rest in Your grace today, not striving to earn Your love, but living in the joy of already being loved completely.
Keep me humble, thankful, and full of faith.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
