What is everyone doing on this Labor Day? I found myself doing laundry and cleaning after spending a slow morning on the deck drinking coffee and reading scripture. I quickly course-corrected and am back on the deck. There is a cool breeze!

Our newest blog is available here and on our website, www.hopeatclayvillage.com. This one looks at Labor Day and its purpose as a launching pad for understanding our need to "practice life" everyday, for the good of everyone.

The question of work is, ironically, on my mind this Labor Day weekend. Thanks to the efforts (labor) of people who advocated for the fair treatment of American workers, I get Monday off. These advocates had their hands full, because during the Industrial Revolution in the late 1800s, work condition...

Ways to prepare for church tomorrow:

1. Pray for God to make Himself known to you.

2. Pray for people to be drawn to Jesus.

3. Make a list of ways in which God is faithful, and thank Him.

4. Read John 15.

5. Come at 10 am and grab coffee and something that tastes like late summer apples. Hang out with the motley crew that will be there.

I have heard from several people this week who are struggling. Some say they are anxious, some overwhelmed, some burned out, some feel their joy has left.

Friends, we are called to gather with each other. Our songs, scripture, and the Lord’s Supper all remind us of our union and communion with Jesus and with each other.
