Where Is Your Treasure?
Matthew 6:19–21

Jesus makes a statement that reaches far beyond our wallets and bank accounts. He tells us to consider our hearts.

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus says: "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." (Matthew 6:21)

Most of us assume our treasure follows our heart. We believe we invest in things because we already love them. Yet Jesus teaches the opposite. Our hearts often follow our investments. We grow to love what we treasure.

Think about a garden. At first, it is just a patch of soil. But after weeks of planting, watering, weeding, and caring for it, that garden becomes precious. Why? Because we have invested ourselves in it. The same principle applies to our relationships, our work, our hobbies, and even our faith.

Jesus is not condemning possessions. He is warning us about misplaced allegiance. Everything on earth is temporary. Clothes wear out. Possessions break. Money comes and goes. Achievements fade. Yet many people spend their lives chasing things that cannot last.

The deeper question is this: What has your loyalty? What occupies your thoughts, directs your decisions, and receives your best time and energy? That is where your treasure is found.

As Christians, our ultimate treasure is not found in what we own but in whose we are. When we invest in God's kingdom through worship, prayer, service, generosity, and love, our hearts become more deeply rooted in Christ. The more we treasure Him, the more we discover that He is the treasure we have been seeking all along.

This week, take a moment to reflect on where your time, attention, and resources are going. They often reveal what we truly value. Ask the Lord to help you place your treasure in things that last forever.

May we be people whose hearts are anchored not in temporary treasures, but in the eternal love and grace of Jesus Christ.

Grace and Peace,
Pastor Tonya
