When I consider the joy I still get from playing and the fact that I'm healthy enough to continue, the question becomes, why shouldn't I keep playing? Coaching was no longer fulfilling for me, so I made the decision to stop. Those who doubted me two years ago due to my ankle sprain provided the motivation for me to keep pushing forward. Playing over 20 games last week with my sons and other young men was truly a blessing.

Remembering the games played with Rodney Maddox fills me with gratitude for his presence in my life. Without his encouragement and expert guidance, I may have never discovered my passion for coaching. His shooting drills, still etched in my memory after 30 years, are a constant reminder of his positive influence and the power of mentorship.

I mourn the loss of my friend and basketball companion, Rodney Maddox, who has recently passed away. Our adventures in pursuit of a game will always be cherished memories for me. Rodney's distinctive habit of addressing me by my full government name added both humor and vexation to our interactions. His unwavering positivity and infectious energy will be greatly missed. May he find eternal peace.
