Beware of Impersonation Scams:
It has come to our attention that several members of our congregation have received fraudulent emails and text messages from individuals impersonating our Lead Minister, Kurt Charlton, and other leaders from the church. These scams happen from time to time and are usually through email. Recently, it has become more sophisticated to include text messages from an unknown number.
The initial message often reads something like, "I have a request I would like to discuss with you discreetly. I am heading into a meeting right now, but please let me know when you are available." If you reply, the scammers will eventually ask you to purchase gift cards on my behalf or seek personal information about others in the church.
We will never ask anyone for gift cards or financial requests, especially through text, email, or social media.
Do not give out personal information of others in the church, especially the staff.
Verify the actual email address of the sender, not just the name it displays.
Treat an unknown number as suspicious, do not engage with the sender, and do not click any links.
If you have already interacted with these scammers or purchased gift cards, please contact your bank immediately to report fraud.
Thank you for your vigilance to help keep our church community safe. Please contact the office if you have been targeted or if you have any questions.
