If you support a mother who killed her children in cold blood, you need deep conversion of heart, and you should not approach the Blessed Sacrament until you achieve that conversion and repentance.

* The Human Venom: Gossip *
It was brought to my attention last Sunday that a rumor was spread in town regarding a parish matter. Suffice it to say that the substance was untrue, as gossip so often is. It does present an opportunity, and the pastoral duty, to remind all that gossip is a sin. It can be a serious sin. It is essentially human venom. "Venom" is the term used for poisons generated and used by animals, such as spiders, snakes, and scorpions. When we talk or ruminate aloud unnecessarily about other individuals, especially without a solid basis in fact, we can be spreading a verbal poison that can injure the dignity and reputations of others. Gossip is unfortunately common in smaller communal environments, and it is a comfortable vice for those struggling with boredom or laziness. It may be glamorized by shows like "Bridgerton", but that only demonstrates its sinful attraction. Gossip is destructive and uncharitable. If you have a concern about a person or situation, you should speak to those involved personally, or someone with responsibility for them, out of Christian love. Otherwise, silence is usually the path of virtue. Gossip is an enemy of healthy parish life, a vice worthy of hatred for the evil that it is.---Fr. Robert

Most Catholics clearly do not take the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and their own sinfulness, seriously. If you receive Holy Communion with serious sins on your conscience, you commit a mortal sin, each time. There are far more grave or mortal sins than just murder. Examine your consciences well, with assistance, before you dare to receive the Holy Eucharist. Do not receive to your own condemnation. It is God Who tells us this through St. Paul, not simply supposedly grumpy priests.

Happy Memorial of St. Henry II, Holy Roman Emperor, King, Duke, Oblate, Celibate Husband, & Confessor. He was the husband in one of the few canonized married couples in the Catholic Church, his wife being St. Cunegunde. They chose to live a celibate marriage, in commitment to God.

The act of the Society of St. Pius X, in ordaining bishops without papal mandates is, by canon law, a delict, a crime, that carries an automatic excommunication and bears a schismatic character in the act. It is not a personally retaliatory penalty; it is the automatic consequence of their action. They are now excommunicated, and they should be avoided by the faithful. Unfortunately, this also means that it is best not to patronize Angelus Press, which is the Society's publishing company. This was unnecessary and willful, and it only harms the cause of Traditionalism by encouraging a stereotype of arrogance and rebelliousness. This is a sad day. May they repent and find greater humility.
