We cancelled our Memorial Day Hot Dog Lunch because we got word last night that the parade had been canceled due to rain and that meant there would be no one to feed. This morning, shortly before 11 a.m. the organizers decided that the parade was back on. Unfortunately an hour's warning was simply not enough time for us to recall our volunteers and set up to feed 400 people. Hopefully next year the weather will allow us to return to doing this event we look forward to each year.

The Sheffield Memorial Day parade has been canceled due to the weather forecast, which also sadly cancels Hot Dog Church. The ceremony will take place at the Sheffield Park Pavilion (not Barnard Park) at 11 am.

Presiding Bishop Yehiel Curry has released a statement on the shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego.

“As the ELCA, we must speak plainly: violence rooted in hatred is sin. We condemn Islamophobia and acknowledge its rise in recent years. Our church affirms that “anti-Muslim hatred is antithetical to our Christian faith” (A Declaration of the ELCA to the Muslim Community), for we are called to love our neighbor in ways that cast out fear (1 John 4:18).”
