The Svenska kyrkan Church of Sweden page posted a beautiful sentiment this morning. It was something like: “Gratitude comes to us like a faintly heard melody, even when things are not “fine”.

Our nation took another dramatic turn in moral collapse with the news of a coming live-streamed ex*****on. While both the Episcopal Church and the ELCA have both long opposed the death penalty, this is a new and sinister turn for our country. Every human being bears the image of God and has an inherent and holy dignity. From threats to annihilate 93 million people in Iran, to a willingness to have over 10 million be killed in our own country as a "small price to pay" and now to making a horrific event even more horrific by making it public, the evil being done on our behalf as citizens has all become continuous and overwhelming. We may not be able to stop these things from our small corner of the world, but we must, as Dietrich Bonhoeffer said, voice our required "NO!" to these horrors if we are to continue being a people who say "YES" to God. The Good News we know is that even the most dramatic of horrors ends in the light and life of resurrection. This will too! In the mean time, I invite you to join with others and voice your "NO!" to all injustice, evil, lies, oppression, and to every violation of our neighbors. Our silence is taken as tacit approval. Let us lean on one another and on the promise of Easter to voice our “No!” to each evil utterance and action leaving our “Yes!” to God to carry us all through these times. - Pastor Erik
