In a season of retirement, transition, and change, God led us somewhere we never expected to find a new church family.
Linda is a lifelong Lutheran, while Danny was raised in the Catholic Church. Over the years, we were part of churches in Indiana, Nebraska, and eventually Kansas after moving here more than 12 years ago. After changes began happening within our previous church we had been attending with our son and daughter-in-law, we started searching for a new church home in 2024.
After doing a Google search for “Lutheran church near Shawnee KS,” we discovered Hope Local Kansas City. To be honest, we weren’t sure how we would feel about virtual sermons, but from the very first Sunday we attended, we were warmly welcomed and immediately felt at home. We became members shortly after in January 2025.
Since joining Hope Local KC, one of the greatest blessings has been the relationships we’ve built with others in the congregation, especially fellow retirees. The monthly men’s and women’s fellowship outings, along with breakfast after worship, have become meaningful parts of our routine and have helped this church truly feel like family.
Retirement in 2024 also opened a new season for us personally. Danny enjoys bird watching and rock hounding, while Linda loves gardening and converting much of our yard into native flower beds. Through this season, God has continued reminding us of the importance of community, fellowship, and staying rooted in faith.
As we look ahead, we’re excited about the future of Hope Local Kansas City and the transition into a permanent worship space. We pray this church continues to grow, not only in size, but in opportunities for people of all ages to connect and grow in their faith. We especially hope future generations will experience ministries like HopeKids, PowerLife, and Ignition in a dedicated church home built for years to come.
