Excerpt: When lies are confronted by the truth, they fall away and die. When our world is finally confronted by the undeniable truth of the resurrection and the victorious King, its lies will die with it. The truth of their choices and their rejection of Him who is truth and life will become their ultimate judgment. Death is to be eternally separated from Him who is the source of all life. When you reject Him who is life, you have chosen death. Ultimately, God gives us what we most want. If we want the lies and false hopes the world offers, He allows us to have what we have chosen. If we want truth, life, hope, love, and Him, He gives Himself to us for all eternity.

Don’t align yourself with the hopeless and impossible mission of standing in opposition to God’s will. When the One who is Truth appears, all the lies will die away along with those who tell them and hold onto them so tightly. The battle of Armageddon is the battle that never was because we will be unable to stand against Him when He comes in all His glory, power, and might to confront the lies and set the world right. When He comes, will you be riding with Him or standing against Him? Your choice matters, for all eternity.

So what does this mean for you and me? It means that if we faithfully follow the Lamb of God, we will experience His return as the victorious King. He will come as the One who is Faithful and True and He will judge and make righteous war against evil and sin. It means that we are fully known by Him, even our most deeply hidden secrets, and we are still so loved by Him that He willingly died in our place to redeem us. It means that He is so vast, so great, so glorious, so powerful, so holy, and so loving that we will never be able to fully know or understand Him. We will be able to spend all of eternity enjoying Him and getting to know Him better and better without ever exhausting His love, goodness, and holiness. It means that He proudly bears the marks of our redemption on His bloodstained robe and He calls us into eternal peace and joy through our submission to Him, the living Word of God.

Ultimately, it means that He is coming to set this world right and to bring God’s kingdom and sovereign reign to their fullness. He will strike the nations with the sword of His mouth and shepherd them with an iron scepter while He tramples disobedience and evil in the winepress of the fierce anger of God, the Almighty. How is He able to do this? He’s able to do this because this time He comes as the faithful, true, and victorious King to claim His bride — all the redeemed saints who follow Him by faith. Just who is this victorious King? He is called Faithful and True! He has a name no one knows except Himself! He is the Word of God! And He IS the KING of kings and the LORD of lords — that’s who my God is! Is He yours?

Be ready. He’s Coming!

God alone deserves worship. That’s the central message of John’s Revelation and that’s the message John’s recipients needed to hear. It is also the central message we need to hear today. No one and nothing in the created order deserves worship. Worship belongs to and is to be reserved for God alone. Then the angel tells John why God alone deserves worship, “because the testimony about Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” Every word of promise from God, every prophetic voice in scripture, every hope of man’s heart are focused on the redemptive work of Christ.

If we believe these things to be true, then they ought to be reflected in our lifestyle and our life choices. A friend of mine likes to joke that the answer to every question ever asked in any Sunday School class is always Jesus. In some respects, she’s exactly right. Jesus is the answer to our life questions. He’s our deepest need and our closest friend. I believe that’s what He intended for the crowds to understand when He told them He is the light of the world, the bread of life, the living water, the true vine, the great shepherd, the gate for the sheep, the resurrection, the way, the truth and the life.

Hallelujah: Invited | Revelation 19:1-10 “After this I heard something like the loud voice of a vast multitude in heaven, saying: Hallelujah! Salvation, glory, and power belong to our God, because …

Excerpt: We live in a throwaway culture. We buy items knowing that they will not last and that we will need to replace them again and again. My wife and I recently went shopping for a new dishwasher. Our old one was about 15 years old and our salesman told us they are no longer designed to last more than 5 years. Well, that was both discouraging and terrifying. Buy this great, reliable appliance with a two-year warranty that costs $400 but expect to replace it in a few years. What I really wanted was something I could reasonably expect to last for another 15 years.

My expectations and desires are built around my experience with an upright freezer we have in our garage. It is more than 42 years old, and has run perfectly since the day we bought it. Honestly, I am beginning to think that freezer may outlast me. I think our dishwasher salesman would say that I’m being unreasonable in my expectations. Honestly, I think he’s being unreasonable in his expectations. Does anything physical really last forever? Not really. But as consumers, I think we all wish things would last longer than they do.

Have we tied our lives, our happiness, our devotion, and our worship to the wrong things? If we lost everything physical life can offer, would we mourn it like we would a spouse, child or best friend? What we mourn when it’s taken away often reveals what we truly loved while we had it. Are we so “in love” with the world and the things it offers to us that we would feel as though life was over if it was all lost?

Never, Never Again: Weep or Rejoice? “The kings of the earth who have committed sexual immorality and lived luxuriously with her will weep and mourn over her when they see the smoke of her burning.…
