Being part of a team and feeling support from your teammates is one of the best feelings one can have at work. According to Simon Sinek, we are not a team because we work together. We are a team because we respect, trust and care for each other.

There’s power in a group of people who work together towards a shared goal, and as a result, great things will happen when leaders recognize that their team is the organization’s most valuable resource. This is what true support is all about because supported teams are successful teams, and leaders are only as successful as their teams.

When evaluating the assets of a community, entity, ministry, or church, we often jump directly to financial resources and physical assets. Have we first considered the human assets, the gifts and talents of leadership, the diversity of thought and contribution among the team and clients?

As a leader, what you bring to the table matters. You are an asset. Once you value yourself as an asset two things emerge: 1) you don’t need the validation of others in order to lead, and 2) you will be much quicker at identifying value in those around you.

When evaluating assets, you are one of them.
