Grace Community Church

Grace Community Church Whether you are looking for a place to investigate the person and claims of Jesus Christ or for a pla Love: A church where you are loved unconditionally.

Our Core Values

Grace: A church where grace is in place, released, and modeled. Excellence: A church where whatever we do for the Lord is done with excellence. A Safe Place: Where believer or seeker can come when they are wounded or hurt and be built up with acceptance and affirmation, and approval rather than torn down by demands, expectations, guilt, condemnation or criticism. Biblical Authorit

y: God has spoken to us through the Bible and we recognize it as the final rule and authority in our lives. Being: What we do in life is not as nearly important as what we want to be. Being is much more important than doing, for it relates to our character, who we really are. It has to do with intangibles, the kind of people we become down inside, much of which cannot be measured by objective yardsticks, goals, bottom-lines, programs or the size of a church.

This Sunday, I will be continuing the message series, “Encountering God”. In this series we have been learning how important it is to find out what God is doing in the world and then adjust our lives to what He doing. When we do that, we will experience God at work in our personal lives and find His will and His purpose for our lives.

In this series I have talked about getting past what is called “the crisis of faith”. The crisis of faith is the point where you have to decide who God is and what you believe about Him. It’s a turning point in your life. You have to decide can God really do what He says He can do. It’s a mental exercise, and an exercise of faith.

This Sunday’s message title is “The Moment Of Truth”. A moment of truth is a time where you are confronted with a situation or a person that will alter the trajectory of your life. It may have been a decision on whether or not to break off a relationship with someone. Maybe it was a decision as to whether or not to be faithful to your spouse. Maybe it was a time where you had to decide whether or not you were going to lie or cheat in a business situation. As we face various moments of truth in our lives, many times they are crossroads that determine the course of our lives. It is important that we face our moments of truth understanding the serious implications of our actions and decisions. At one time or another we will all face a moment of truth. The moment of truth in your Christian life is when you have cleared the crisis of faith, and then in obedience, you actually do what God has asked you to do!

We are in a series of messages titled, “Encountering God”. In this series we have been learning how important it is To find out what God is doing in the world, and then adjust our lives to that. When we do, we will experience God at work in our personal lives and find His will and His purpose for our lives. Last week I shared with you that when God speaks to us and reveals His plans and purposes for us, it will cause a crisis of faith. A decision, do I move forward in faith believing that God will accomplish through me the thing He has called me to do? Or, do I look at the thing God has called me to do and think I don’t have the resources, the talent, the time, or whatever...That decision to obey or not obey God is the crisis of faith. And what we decide could be a turning point in your Christian life.

This Sunday’s message is “Actions Speak Louder Than Words” In this message I’m going to talk about the importance of what you believe about God. Because what we believe about God will determine what we do...the faith action we take. Conversely, “what we do, will expose what we believe about God”. The Question is: What do you believe about God? What you believe about God will determine what you do in life.

We are in a series of messages titled, “Encountering God”. In this series we have been learning how important it is To find out what God is doing in the world, and then adjust our lives to that. When we do, we will experience God at work in our personal lives and find His will and His purpose for our lives. However, adjusting our life to what God is doing will require a step of faith on our part. Taking that step of faith is often challenging and creates what I call in the title of my next message, “The Crisis of Faith”. The word “crisis” comes from a Greek word that means “decision”. It is used in regards to a crucial or decisive point or situation; a turning point. Our crisis of faith is a turning point in our lives where you and I must make a decision. We must decide what we believe about God and act on that belief. It will be a turning point in your life. How we respond at this turning point–this time of decision, will determine whether or not you will experience God in your life.

We are in a series of messages titled, “Encountering God”. Last week I shared with you the secret of our success as believers does not depend on being some spiritual super hero or genius. Anyone who is not afraid to adjust their life to God’s will and obey God and serve Him can attain success as defined by God’s Word in their lives. This Sunday, we will encounter God by learning how to “Experience God’s Love”. I am absolutely convinced that God has created mankind for a love relationship with Himself. Do you know what it means to experience God’s love in your life? We are told in scripture that “God is love”. It is a divine attribute of God that is at the very foundation of our relationship with Him.

When you have faced the tough circumstances of life—the loss of a job—business—finances—marriage—severe illness, or the death of a loved one…Have you ever questioned whether God loves you? Let me tell you, it’s very normal to raise that question. In moments of weakness, in almost 49 years of full time ministry, there have been times I have wondered if God still loved me and if should I even continue in the ministry. During that time of uncertainty did God still love me? YES! Had His love for me changed? NO! Why? Because God is LOVE!

Dear Church Family and Friends,

We are in a series of messages titled, “Encountering God”. Wouldn’t it great if each one of us could have an encounter with God during our lifetime? The Bible is filled with men and women who did and their lives were forever changed.

The title of my message this Sunday is “The Secret To Success”. What does it mean to succeed? It all depends on your standard for measuring success. In our competitive, materialistic culture, most success or failure is determined in dollars and cents and how much power you have. But we need to ask ourselves, where does true success lie? Success or failure with God is not dependent upon how much stuff we have, but upon our heart attitude toward God.

Medical science has made it possible to transplant a heart so that people with a bad heart can live longer and better. As Christians, we are in need of a heart transplant so that we can see the world as God sees it…We need a heart transplant so that we can measure our lives and success more accurately. Jesus told us in Matthew 6 that where our treasure is, that is where we can find our heart. The implication is that success or failure with God is not dependent upon how much we have, but upon our heart attitude toward God.

We are starting a new series of messages this Sunday titled, “Encountering God”. Wouldn’t it great if each one of us could have an encounter with God during our lifetime? The Bible is filled with men and women who did and their lives were forever changed:

Noah was minding his own business when God spoke to him and told him to build an Ark. Abraham was living a non-descript life, at his father’s house when God told him to leave and go to a land that He would show him. Moses encountered God in the backside of a dessert and God told him to go to Pharaoh and demand the release of the Hebrew slaves. Peter, James and John, had an encounter with Jesus and He told them to put down their fishing nets and become fishers of men. Saul was persecuting the church when he encountered Jesus on the road to Damascus and became God’s evangelist to the Gentile world and wrote most of the New Testament.

This happened time and again. And as I said their lives were forever changed. Can that happen today? Can you and I have an encounter with God that will forever change our lives and how we live our lives? It can, just maybe not in the same way as the examples I mentioned. During this series we will look at different ways we can experience God in our lives and the impact that encounter can have.

We’ve been in a series for the last couple of weeks titled “Life Hurts—God Heals”. This has been a series designed to help us all overcome our hurts and the pain inflicted on us by others. This Sunday is the last message in this short series.

Based on the feedback I have received, this series has really resonated with a number of people in our church. It’s been a difficult and sometimes painful process to prepare the material for this series. It forced me to deal with some of the same painful things all of us have to deal with. As we wind up this series Sunday, I want to look at the last step in recovering from life’s hurts. The title of my message is “Recycling My Pain”.

This step is about yielding ourselves to God so that He can use our experiences to help others. God wants to use us! He wants to recycle the pain in our lives for the benefit of others. If we can wrap our arms around this truth that God can and does use everything for good in our lives...and that He wants to use our weaknesses and pain to benefit others, life takes on a whole new meaning. What happens is that we begin to focus outside ourselves. When we begin to do that, it’s a sign of recovery. The proof of recovery is when we begin to focus outside of ourselves.

Last week I started a new message series, Life Hurts—God Heals. The title of the first message in the series was “Handling Life’s Hurts”. In that message I shared several biblical steps in how to recover from the hurts that life and others inflict on us and often spiritually paralyze us. Those steps if put into practice will enable us to move forward in our Christian lives. If you would like to hear that message, go to our website and you can listen to it along with the powerpoint presentation.

This Sunday the title of my message is “How To Handle Resentment”. Resentment is a great destroyer of relationships. It destroys all kinds of relationships. Resentment eats us up in such a way that eventually we’re emotionally empty and we have nothing to give. The good news is that you can recover from resentment and hurts in life. In this message we will look at a man named Job who had every reason in the world to be filled with resentment. In his day he was a very wealthy man. One day he lost it all. He went bankrupt. He lost his entire estate. All of his children were murdered. His wife turned against him. He was struck with a disease which was extremely painful. When his friends came to him, instead of being sympathetic, they scolded him saying, "It's your fault." At first Job was very bitter! But instead of staying bitter, he got better! He had every reason in the world to be resentful. Instead of staying resentful, he recovered from the resentment and the Bible says that God made the last of Job's life greater than the first. Regardless of the pain you've had in your past, God can make the rest of your life the best of your life if you'll do what Job did.

This Sunday I will be concluding the message series “Grace—More Than We Deserve, Greater Than We Can Imagine”. The title of my message is “The Joy Of Grace Giving”. Having been a pastor now for more than 40 years, I can remember times when I could almost hear the groans and sighs as I announced that I would be speaking on giving. Why do so many Christians feel that way? Why have they become so defensive? We have all seen it—many have experienced it. I believe the reason for the aversion to hearing messages on giving is because grace has been separated from giving. We get all caught up in how much is given. I am convinced that how and why we give is far more important to God than how much we give. In God’s economy attitude and motive are always more important than the amount. I further believe that once a person understands the principle of grace giving, the amount becomes immaterial. It is my contention that grace giving, as opposed to guilt giving, will result in generous giving. Giving actually becomes an act of worship and even fun when it’s done God’s way.

This coming Sunday at Grace Community we will continue in the message series “Grace—More Than We Deserve, Greater Than We Can Imagine”. Last week I talked about the importance of extending grace to others. I was talking about extending horizontally, to each other, the vertical grace of God that He demonstrated when He saved us. You and I don’t deserve salvation. We are sinners by nature and will continue to sin until we die and go to heaven. Yet, God in His wonderful grace saves us when we by faith put our faith in His Son Jesus Christ as the One who paid for our sin. He desires us to extend that same kind of grace toward each other as we live out our Christian lives in the here and now. The question is, are our churches grace filled churches? In my message this Sunday we will examine 5 characteristics from the N.T. that mark a grace filled church and see if we measure up.

By His Grace

This coming Sunday at Grace Community we will return to the message series “Grace—More Than We Deserve, Greater Than We Can Imagine”. The title of the message is “Extending Grace To Others.”

Why is it as Christians we don’t we treat one another as the Lord instructs us to? Why do we love with hypocrisy? What keeps us from being devoted to one another? What keeps us from honoring one another, from contributing to each other’s needs, from practicing hospitality? When others receive special recognition or are promoted, or have more than we have, do we rejoice with them and celebrate their success? What is it within us that hinders an attitude of grace from flowing out from us to others?

I personally think it’s because of two strong and very human tendencies that are very much a part of our sin nature. In this message we will expose these two tendencies that inhibit us from extending grace to others as we should and then look at some biblical guidelines that will encourage grace to flourish in the church.
