Make Me, Shape Me, Mold Me . . .Thy Will Be Done
Jeremiah 18:1The word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying,2 Arise, and go down to the potter's house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words. 3 Then I went down to the potter's house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.5 Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 6 O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the Lord. Behold, as the clay is in the potter's hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel. Make – cause something to exist that was not there before. Shape – form, image, give a particular form. Mold – fashion, work, guide, direct control. So, God made man in His image and placed him in the garden of Eden, gave him instructions, and a command not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. God saw that Adam was lonely, so He made him a “helpmeet” Eve. Then up popped the devil and beguiled the woman, and she beguiled Adam to disobey God – sin entered. God had given the command to Adam and told him that he would surely die if he ate from the tree. But God so loved His creation he cursed them and banished them from the garden instead. Now, how does this relate? Adam was created from the dust of the ground – Genesis 2:7. What is clay made of? – Soil. The same substance used on the potter’s wheel. When the Word came to Jeremiah, I can imagine, God was saying, “Let me make you over” into a vessel of honor. Romans 9:19-21. God wants to make us vessels of honor. We must stay on that wheel until we are delivered from the things that hinder our walk with Christ. God doesn’t destroy the lump of clay – He makes, shapes and molds us. How? By studying His Word, praying without ceasing, trials and tribulations, leaning and depending on Jesus, Who is the Way, Truth and our life. John 14:6. We must stop trying to “conform” to this world and “be ye transformed” by the renewing of our minds. Romans 12:1-2. Everything we need is found in Jesus. No, it won’t happen overnight. 1 Peter 5:6-11 gives us instruction and assurance to know that we can “cast our care upon Him… and He will exalt us.” Your “due season” is coming. Galatians 6:9
