5 Things Friday @ 1st
Worship @ 1st will be in the sanctuary at 11:00 AM on May 10, the sixth Sunday of Easter. Rev. Dr. Bill Crooks will be preaching. Fellowship time will be after the service in the Library.
Mother’s Day at 1st Church is a day to say “Thank you” to all the women who have made a difference in our lives. So “thanks” to the moms, grandmoms, sisters, aunts and friends who have supported, listened, encouraged, cared for, challenged and loved over the years. The Discipleship and Membership Team has prepared a special thank you for all the women at 1st Church today.

May 10 is also Bible Sunday. Bible recipients are 3rd grader Sadie Smoot and Kindergartener Kaylie Smoot.
Adult Sunday School is at 10:00AM in Fellowship Hall. Dr. Crooks and Dr. Hink are team-teaching the BCE Old Testament prophets. Special emphasis will be given to the historical context of the prophets, which makes their oracles and visions even more interesting and courageous. Everyone is welcome.

Over the past 4-5 years the active membership attending worship at 1st Church has significantly changed. We are pleased that so many new people share in worship at 1st Church. So to better get to know each other, the 2nd Sunday of May-September will be “Name Tag Sunday.” On “Name Tag Sunday,” please write your name on your tag and put it on. There will also be a brief time at the beginning of worship to greet one another. Thanks for helping extend hospitality to each other.
Adult Seminar. On Saturday May 9, 2026, at 9am we will host a free seminar with a speaker from St Paul’s Senior Living Center. Topics discussed will be avoiding phishing schemes and unwanted phone calls. Light breakfast will be provided. There is a sign-up sheet in the coffee house.
May 17th is Bluegrass Sunday. The joyful sounds of banjo, fiddle, guitar, and mandolin will once again be part of worship at 1st Church. There will also be a free 30–40-minute Bluegrass Concert following worship. Plan now to attend a bring friends. Bluegrass Sunday is an Arts@1st program.
It’s the season of graduation. Graduate Sunday at 1st Church will be June 28th. If you have a child or grandchild graduating from high school, college, trade school, community, or graduate school and would like to have them recognized, reach out to Brenda via phone 724-866-2638 or email [email protected].

Villa Maria will be hosting an Easter Season Taizé service on Tuesday, May 12, at 7:00PM. Taizé is a simple and thoughtful worship service using candles, sung prayer, scripture and silence. Everyone is welcome.
Garrett Smith won the Mercer County Spelling Bee Competition. He’s in 5th grade at Sharpsville Elementary School. Garrett is the son of Donna and Robbie Smith and the grandson of Lyle and Debbie Derrenbacher. Good job, Garrett!
The play “Murder on the Orient Express” is currently running at the ACTS Theatre in downtown Sharon. This fun murder mystery is directed by Maria Ackley.
Presbytery News! Pastor Donna Heard has been nominated to be the next Moderator of Shenango Presbytery. Before joining 1st Church with her husband Lorenzo, Donna was the pastor at Word Centered Fellowship Presbyterian Church. Donna’s installation to the Moderator position will be at the September 22nd Presbytery Meeting hosted by 1st Church. The worship service that includes the installation will be at 6:30PM. Everyone is welcome.
The beauty of building and grounds is one of the gifts 1st Church shares with the community. The “Churchyard Clean Up” evening will be Monday, May 18th, 5:00-7:30 PM. The plan is to clean up the flower beds and spread mulch. If you have them, bring wheelbarrow, yard rake, shovel, and gloves.
