This past Sunday we celebrated Pentecost by confirming our newest class of confirmands! This group of six students has been meeting since August, exploring their faith and the ways they fell called to be a part of the church. They have done that with these things foundational to our time together: to respect participants’ faithful choice about whether or not to be confirmed, and celebrate and honor them, whatever their choice may be; to allow participants a safe space to speak and participate, focusing on their questions more than just our answers; to demonstrate our confidence that the Christian faith will stand up to honest examination. We are not afraid to show our Christian traditions, flaws and all; to explore the many ways people have expressed their faith through the centuries; to empower youth to lead. Some of the class chose to be confirmed, and affirm baptismal vows, and others chose not to right now. We as the Plymouth community are here to support all of them as they continue to explore what it means to be a faithful person, and in turn, how they live out their faith in this world. Congratulations to all the confirmands!
