All the World’s a Stage!
Join us at Shadow Hills Presbyterian Church on Wednesday evenings in August, as we view films based on Shakespeare plays. The movies will start at 6:45pm, with a short introduction plus pizza and snacks at 6:30pm.
We begin August 5 with Michael Hoffman’s 1999 A Midsummer Night’s Dream, starring Michelle Pfeiffer, Rupert Everett, Kevin Kline, Stanley Tucci, Calista Flockhart, and Christian Bale.
Another romantic comedy follows (Aug. 12) with Kenneth Branagh’s 1993 version of Much Ado About Nothing, featuring Brannagh with Emma Thompson, Denzel Washington, Michael Keaton, Keanu Reeves, and Kate Beckinsale in her film debut.
Next up (Aug. 19) is the ultimate romantic tragedy, Romeo and Juliet, in Baz Luhrmann’s 1996 adaptation, with Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes in the title roles, and Brian Dennehy, John Leguizamo, Pete Postlethwaite, and Paul Sorvino in the supporting cast.
To close (Aug. 26), we have Julie Taymor’s 2010 version of the fantasy The Tempest, with Helen Mirren starring in a gender-reversed lead as the sorceress Prospera, with Ben Whishaw, Djimon Hounsou, Felecity Jones, Chris Cooper, Alfred Molina, and Russell Brand.
