KEY TAKEAWAY: Honest Grief Can Still Seek Purpose.

Invisible chains do not become lighter just because other people cannot see them. The Psalms and Job make room for sadness, anger, and hard questions before God, without requiring a bold face. Honest grief can also ask what opportunities the burden creates for the gospel to advance or take deeper root in a believer’s life.

Hebrews 12:1 - James 2:26 | October 19 - 25, 2026

Believers are encouraged to run the race of faith with perseverance, fixing their eyes on Jesus and laying aside anything that hinders them. The writer reminds them that God’s discipline is an expression of His love and calls them to pursue peace, holiness, gratitude, and faithful worship. The passage also gives practical instruction for living in community, including showing hospitality, honoring marriage, caring for others, and remaining content while trusting God’s presence and provision.

James continues with a strong call to put faith into action. Believers are urged to persevere through trials, seek wisdom from God, listen carefully to His Word, and care for those in need. James warns against favoritism and reminds Christians to love their neighbors as themselves. He makes clear that genuine faith is demonstrated through the way a person lives, showing that faith without corresponding action is incomplete.

Tomorrow isn’t promised. The conviction God places on your heart today isn’t something to put off until life slows down or the timing feels right.

James reminds us that our lives are like a morning mist—here for a moment, then gone. So don’t delay repentance. Don’t put off reconciliation. Don’t wait to obey.

What step of obedience have you been putting off? What if today is the day God is calling you to take it?

This Sunday at Christ Church, we are celebrating our partnership with Urban Impact Foundation!

Another UIF Sunday is coming up at Christ Church At Grove Farm on October 25th, and you’re invited! This will be a great opportunity to experience what a week at Urban Impact looks like. Our Jazz Band will perform before each service, and the UI Choir will lead us in a time of worship with songs including “Alleluia” and “I Trust in God.” You’ll also hear a powerful story from Urban Missionaries, Bryce & Kortney McGarvey, about how their house became a catalyst in transforming their North Side neighborhood.

Following worship, Nate Glover will give the message as he preaches from Philippians 1:12-24, emphasizing what it means to have “Chains for Christ”. At the end of the service, you’ll have the chance to talk with our missionaries to hear how they are making disciples who make disciples, learn more about our programs, and take the next step in getting connected with us.

Hebrews 8 - Hebrews 11:40 | October 12 - 18, 2026

Jesus is presented as the mediator of a better covenant, one built on God’s promise to transform hearts and remember sins no more. The writer explains how the old system of sacrifices pointed forward to Christ, whose sacrifice was offered once for all. Because of what Jesus has done, believers are encouraged to draw near to God with confidence, hold firmly to their hope, and continue encouraging one another in faith and love.

The passage then turns to the meaning of faith, describing it as trusting God even when His promises have not yet been fully seen. Through examples such as Abel, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Moses, and many others, believers are reminded that faithful obedience often requires endurance, sacrifice, and trust. These men and women looked beyond their present circumstances to God’s promises, leaving a lasting example of what it means to live by faith.
