Ikon Wadsworth

Ikon Wadsworth ikonwadsworth.com Our mission as a church is "discovering together what it means to follow Jesus." Our gatherings are relaxed and informal - come as you are!
(2)

We believe that we'll do this by spending time learning from the Bible, worshiping God together, and growing together in community. We meet through the week in small communities for fellowship, encouragement, learning, prayer, and serving. We gather together on the weekend to worship together in classes starting at 9:30AM and worship service starting at 10:30AM on Sunday morning. We'd love to have you join us as we discover together what it means to follow Jesus.

O How I Love Your Law! Psalm 119:49-56

Summary: In these verses, the psalmist speaks of how God's law brings him comfort in affliction. He also speaks of the indignation he feels at seeing the wicked forsake God's law. As we learn from his heart, we also see the responsibility of the nations to obey God's law.

O How I Love Your Law! Psalm 119:45-48

Summary: In these verses, the psalmist speaks of the liberty he finds in following God's law. He also talks about speaking God's law to kings, and being unashamed in doing so. We look at the biblical principle of a functional separation of church and state, but also find the unity between them in that they both serve the same Lord. Understanding these biblical principles of law help us to understand what we should be working toward as God's people today.

O How I Love Your Law! Psalm 119:41-44

Summary: In these verses, the psalmist expresses his trust and hope in God's law; he asks God to show him steadfast love and salvation. We also see that lawlessness in the church takes a variety of forms, but inevitably leads to autonomy. And we look at a case law that helps us see the importance of not limiting God's law in the church.

Resurrection in the Law (John 20)

Summary: After Jesus' resurrection, his followers were confused - not understanding or expecting the event. Was the resurrection unforeseen? Was it a change of God's plans? In this message, we see four events in the Law (the first 5 books of the Bible) that foreshadowed the resurrection. Then we see how each of them pointed forward to Jesus.

Palm Sunday: Guilty as Charged? Justice and Injustice in the Trials of Jesus (Matthew 26-27)

Summary: In the trials of Jesus - both Jewish and Roman - we see great injustice. But while the cross of Christ is a great miscarriage of justice humanly speaking, it is also the greatest display of divine justice in history. The cross is what answers the demands of divine justice and grants us the righteous status we need.

We also see that God's law applies to our civil rulers and authorities. And we look at the commandment to not steal, along with case laws that help us to apply it.

Summary: As we continue in Psalm 119, we hear in these verses how the psalmist obeys God's Word though he faces opposition from powerful people, and he makes the law of God his counselor. The principle we learn is that God's law applies to all nations and people, and we examine God's laws regarding slavery to illustrate the principle.
