Our work team wrapped up a few projects on Wednesday and celebrated a good week together. We’re so grateful to UMCOR, Emergency Response Teams, Lutheran Disaster Response, and so many others who are continuing to support the Augusta community two years after Hurricane Helene. We learned that Senoia UMC is only the 5th UMC from GA to come help Augusta rebuild, and are already looking at the calendar to see when we can bring another team back! Thanks to everyone who supported us with your prayers, cards, and donations.

Two work days down, one to go! We’ve been working on three different sites: a new home build after the storm destroyed a woman’s trailer, a backyard cleanup after the storm wrecked the fence and yard crews wouldn’t work around unsecured doggos, and the Disaster Warehouse to organize, sort, and store all the donated supplies for the over 300 projects complete so far, and many more in the queue. More stories to come!

Last night we heard stories from Rev. Jenny Anderson, pastor at St John UMC, and Rev. Lindsey Solomon who served at Wesley UMC in 2024 when Hurricane Helene hit Augusta. They shared their experiences of weathering the storm as trees broke through the house, kids were out of school for 3 weeks, the church roof was torn off (St John), and Wesley became a distribution center accepting donations and supplies, cooking meals, organizing clean up, and so much more. Two years later and many families are still not back in their homes, so this week we’re here to help!

Our Mission Team made it safely to Augusta! We settled in, shared a meal, and learned more about what it was like when Hurricane Helene came through two years ago. Now it’s time for a good night’s sleep so we’re ready to work hard tomorrow.
