Nobody has ever told them the truth about themselves. That’s the whole first session.

Most of the people I’ve worked with have been carrying the same story about themselves for most of their adult lives.

That they can’t finish.

That something in them is wired wrong.

In that first session, we don’t fix anything.

I just name what’s actually happening, the pattern, the fear underneath the perfectionism, why a brand-new idea shows up right at the finish line.

And something in their face changes. Not because they’ve been let off the hook.

Because for the first time, somebody described them accurately.

That’s most of this work. People don’t need to be repaired. They need to be explained, and then handed a first move.

If you’ve been calling yourself lazy, scattered, or undisciplined, you’ve been working from the wrong diagnosis.

You’re not broken. You’re loaded.

THE VISIONARY’S TRAP

Perfectionism isn’t a high standard. It’s fear with a good vocabulary.
Say “I’m afraid to put this out” and people move toward you with help.

Say “I want to do it right,” and people nod respectfully and leave you alone.
Same fear. Better costume.

And it can hide in a life for thirty years without anybody, including you, naming it.

Here’s what’s actually being feared: not failure. Finishing. Because finishing turns a possibility into a fact.
Unfinished, that book is potentially brilliant. Nobody can review it. Nobody can decline it.

Nobody can scroll past it. At 80% it stays undefeated, and some part of you decided undefeated is safer than published.

But here’s the part nobody explains. For most people, avoidance looks like avoidance. Dishes. Scrolling. Episode six. They feel guilty enough to come back.

You don’t get that mercy. For a gifted person, avoidance looks like productivity.

You hit the hard edge — where the work becomes real and judgeable, and you don’t reach for the remote. You reach for a new idea. And it arrives with real energy. Real vision. You can see the whole thing in high definition.

That’s your gift being used against you.

The tell is the timing. Your best ideas arrive precisely when the current one gets hard. Right at 80%. Right when imagination becomes exposure. Perfectly on schedule, wearing the face of inspiration.

That’s not creativity. That’s rescue.

Ten years of that and you have a folder full of beginnings and a perfect record. Nothing has ever failed, because nothing has ever finished.

Unfinished feels safe. Finishing is the only way it becomes real.

🤔consider this: “Done is better than perfect”

The Visionary's Trap

Perfection is fear with a good vocabulary.

Here's what took me years to understand about that man, and about myself.

Perfectionism is not a high standard. It is fear dressed up as standards.

Think about how unusual that is. Every other fear announces itself and gets treated accordingly; nobody praises you for being too scared to speak up, or too scared to leave, or too scared to try.

But fear figured out something clever.

It found the one costume nobody challenges.
Say "I'm afraid to put this out" and people move toward you with help.

Say "I want to do it right," and people nod respectfully and leave you alone.

Same fear. Better vocabulary. And that second version can hide in a life for thirty years without anybody, including you, naming it for what it is.

So, what's actually being feared? Not failure, exactly. It's finishing, because finishing turns a possibility into a fact.

Right now, unfinished, that book is potentially brilliant. Unfinished, that business is potentially the thing that changes everything.

Nobody can review it.
Nobody can decline it.
Nobody can scroll past it.

As long as it stays at eighty percent "perfect", it stays undefeated, and some part of you has quietly decided that undefeated is safer than published.

Finished & published means you may discover that what you love, others may hate; so you'll just stay unfinished until it's perfect, so you don't have to face the negativity.

That's the trade. You gave up the chance of it being real to keep the certainty of it being perfect.

And here's where the gift comes in

Now, fear works differently in a person like you, and this is the part nobody explains.

For most people, avoidance looks like avoidance.

They know it when they're doing it. The dishes, the scrolling, the sixth episode. It's obvious enough to feel guilty about, and that guilt eventually pushes them back to the desk.

You don't get that mercy. For a gifted person, avoidance can look like productivity.
When the current project reaches the hard edge- the point where it has to become real and judgeable- you don't reach for the remote.

You reach for a new idea. And that new idea, for someone like you, arrives with real energy.

Real vision. Genuine excitement you have not manufactured. You can see the whole thing, all at once, in high definition.

You start sketching. You feel alive again, the way you did with the last one at the beginning.

And nobody around you can tell the difference. Neither can you. Because it looks exactly like your gift, and it is your gift used against you.

That's what I mean when I say fear wars with the genius in you. It can't beat you head-on; you're too capable for that. So it doesn't stop you creating. It redirects your creating away from the thing that's almost done and toward the thing that can't fail yet.

Now let me show you the tell, because there is one, and once you see it you can't unsee it.

It's the timing.

Your best ideas arrive precisely when the current one gets hard.

Not randomly. Not evenly across the year. Right at the eighty percent mark, right when the work stops being imagination and starts being exposure, in walks the most exciting idea you've had in years; perfectly on schedule, wearing the face of inspiration.

That's not creativity. That's rescue.

And it works. That's the terrible part. It genuinely feels good. The high is real, the relief is real, and for a few months you're happy again. All it costs is that the deadline moves. Every cycle kicks the can down the road one more time, and the road, as we'll talk about in a minute, is not infinite.

Ten years of that, and you have a folder full of beginnings and a perfect record. Nothing has ever failed, because nothing has ever finished. So, here's the takeaway: unfinished can feel safe, but finishing is the only way the work becomes real.

Midwife Monday
Theme: The Commissioning

New month. New post. Report to the wall.

First, family, a word about the book. You marked today's date with me, and I don't take that lightly. As I prepared to release THE HIDDEN ROOTS, the Lord said not yet; there's more. So I went back beneath the surface one more time. What was coming as one book is now becoming a bundle, arriving Labor Day weekend. A double portion is worth a few more weeks. Stay on the launch list (link in bio). You'll be first.

Now, August's assignment. This month, The Brief takes us on the wall: healing, deliverance, and strategic prayer, learned the way a watchman learns them. Post by post, gate by gate.

"I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, which shall never hold their peace day nor night." — Isaiah 62:6

The August Brief is live. The Watchman’s Brief link is below

https://www.thewisdomways.com/the-watchman-s-brief/on-the-wall-healing-and-deliverance-through-strategic-prayer

Read it before Wednesday; we'll be praying from it.

Comment if you're taking the wall with me this month.

Be Seen ~ You Are Not Forgotten

There is a particular kind of pain that doesn’t come from being rejected; it comes from being unseen. It’s the kind of pain that settles in quietly, the kind that doesn’t always have a clear moment you can point back to.
It shows up when you are present yet somehow overlooked. When you are giving and not acknowledged. When you keep showing up, doing what you know you were called to do, and still feel like you don’t exist in the room.
And if you’ve ever felt that not just once, but repeatedly, you begin to adjust. You don’t even realize it at first, but slowly,
You start to shrink.
You silence parts of yourself.
You hold back what once came naturally.
You become less
We do these things, you agree, but because you have a sense of belonging and you fear rejection or abandonment.
But let me shift your perspective for a moment, because this is where truth begins to break through the pain.
What if you were never invisible? What if the issue was never that you weren’t seen, but that you were in environments that didn’t have the capacity to recognize you? There is a difference, and it is a life-changing one. Because if you don’t understand that difference, you will spend your life trying to earn visibility, trying to prove your worth, trying to be acknowledged, when the truth is, you were already seen from the very beginning. ❤️
