🔥One of the biggest signs that someone is still spiritually immature is that they cannot control their mouth.
They have to say everything they think, respond to every offense, argue every disagreement, and announce every irritation. But when God begins to mature you, one of the first things He starts dealing with is your tongue.
You begin to realize that not every thought needs to be spoken, and not every situation needs your commentary. Some things are meant to be taken to prayer, not people.
📖 “If anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is mature…” — James 3:2
A spiritually immature person speaks from emotion and then deals with the damage afterward. But mature believers learn restraint. They understand that words carry weight, and one careless sentence can wound people, stir division, damage reputations, and grieve the Holy Spirit.
The strongest people are not always the loudest people.
Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is stay quiet when your flesh wants to react. Sometimes maturity looks like walking away from gossip instead of contributing to it. Sometimes it looks like praying for someone instead of exposing them, correcting them publicly, or trying to prove a point.
Everything you discern is not meant to be announced publicly. Everything you notice is not automatically your assignment to address. Wisdom knows when to speak, but maturity also knows when silence is necessary.
Honestly, some people are delaying their own spiritual growth because they refuse to surrender their mouth to God. Constant criticism, sarcasm, gossip, passive-aggressive behavior, always needing the last word, always needing to vent… those are not fruits of the Spirit.
The mature learn to pray more and say less.
📖 “Let your conversation be gracious and attractive…” — Colossians 4:6 NLT
Before speaking, we should ask ourselves:
Is it true?
Is it necessary?
Is it loving?
Is this the right timing?
Does this sound like Jesus?
In this hour, the remnant must learn restraint. The Holy Spirit does not just want control over our worship services. He wants control over our mouths too.
